PRO TIP: How to change game settings to improve your reaction time
Always mess with your video settings. Anyone who's gamed enough knows that even if you have a 1080 card and are running 250 fps on max video settings, doesn't ever mean max everything are best for fast-paced gaming.

The only 4 that make a difference in Rocket League are Render Quality, World Detail, Ambient Occlusion and Dynamic Shadows. Trust me, try RL with just those 4 maxed and every other setting off for performance. You might find that it runs "smoother", despite still written at 250fps.

**Edit, I wrote this below as well: Getting a faster monitor or not, point of this little thread is so people understand that maxing out your fps isn't everything. Might sound like it, and it is everything you can do for the screen, but you're completely ignoring the fact that you're the gamer, and it's your reaction time that matters. That can be improved by changing video settings to your preference (such as turning off depth of field).

Of course, everyone has their own say, but just sharing with those who aren't familiar.

Have fun :]

I'm quite confused. You know hz and fps are different right? Hz is the refresh rate per second of your monitor. Fps is your frames per second in-game that you can increase with a better graphics processor. Max fps in Rocket League is 250.

What you probably noticed by keeping it at "default", is that at default, your fps was higher than when you set it to 144. That's why you noticed the change lol.

does it not cap fps depending on monitor refresh rate
I tried the settings - Aquadome went from 155fps to 195fps but the visuals were headache inducing.

Oh my mistake. I assume it should cap to the monitor refresh rate. Not sure on the 'big difference' you noticed then..

With just those 4 active? Other than how you removed Depth of Field and High Quality Shaders, there shouldn't be much difference. Essentially yes, reducing dof will increase image sharpness, and just like wearing a more powerful prescription pair of glasses than required, it can give a headache at first.. Try turning those 2 settings back on and if it's more comfortable, might help with the difference!

In short: DOF is the most likely cause for the headache, HQS is the most noticable difference (helps when the arena is too bright, doesn't help if the arena is set to night-time mode).

I have my game running at high performance, crap quailty, no audio and even the 640x480 res. I mean I know that sounds ridiculous but I seem to do better even though I can play it maxed out and still get crasy fast FPS. Though sometimes when I care about playing better I bump it up to 1080x...whatever the option is.
Also if you want to play better change the camera settings. Mines far back, a bit higher up...etc. My hud is shrunk to near nothing.

Lucky me!
I can save all the money, since I`m so bad in RL, it just doesn`t matter what screen I buy ;)
