Rumble - Spikes
No...this isn't a post claiming it's OP as hell (as it isn't). This is a post on how it actually fairs up against other powerups.

Now it can be countered through the following things...
  • Grapple Hook
  • Tornado
  • Boot (if player is not in line with the goal)
  • Good old fashioned player on player action
  • Another spike
Through that you can tell that the spikes are in fact...not OP at all. Countless times I've done aerials with the ball on my spike and been countered through the above. I've also used the above to counter it.

I don't really know how people are seeing it as OP...

I think it just lasts a second or 2 too long.

99% of the time i use powerup on it ( when they have the ball spiked on them ) it dont have any effect on the ball/enemy. So its OP.

I agree, it's not OP at all. You can activate the magnet as well to make it harder for the other player to control to spiked car because the ball will be attracted towards the magnet car. You'll be able to slow it down and bump into him. Also if you use freeze on the ball while it is spiked, it will detach from the spikes. Although it will immediately lose its freeze the player will be able to continue with the ball so there's no to little point in using it just before he is about to score.

I agree it can be countered and it's not unfairly OP'd (obviously it IS overpowered, given that it's a superpower, bu that's what's fun), but can it be countered with grappling hook? I had a very entertaining ride a couple of days ago where I hooked the ball just as it landed on my team-mate's spikes, and I was carried all the way into the goal. Last night I saw this, which shows you can carry the whole opposition team and one of your own at least: https://gfycat.com/ScarceSociableBobcat

I think hooked players are essentially weightless to spiked players, and they can drag any number of them.

I think it will work if you're between the spiked player and the goal.

When the vast majority of rumble goals are from spikes then there is clearly a balance issue.

I've seen more goals with the plunger and magnet than I have with spikes.

Yup, Grapplin' hook's speed is not enough to catch a fast ball (maybe boosting the right direction helps, but i'm never reactive enough to try that), so you have to be in the right position anyway, unless they patch up the reelin' time to be way faster :/

Also freezing the ball breaks it off the spikes

99% of the time I use a powerup on someone when they have the ball spiked on them, it removes the ball from the spikes. So its not OP.

I usually get my goals with the punching glove or the one that makes you blow up everyone. My games usually only have one spike goal every 2 (ish) games.

Not OP no sir not at all. Now if only I had a graph that correlated spikes given to a team and their % of wins.

Not trying to ruin your point but I would think each team gets spikes at some point during the match making it so "spikes given to winning team" would be 100% no matter which team won.
