I guess I don't really see the issue. Crates are already in the game, and I really doubt it's a 1-time thing, meaning that we're likely going to see more and more crates in the future. I really don't see how other people buying and selling items affects you in any way if you choose not to participate in the market. If anything, all it means is that people who will never spend cash to open crates can make some steam cash just by playing a game they like, and people who want to collect everything dont have to play for an indefinite amount of time trying to get crates and spending tons of cash on keys hoping for that one item.
IMO if there's any debate, it should be on whether the crates should or shouldn't have been added. Again, I don't see how their being marketable affects anyone who chooses not to participate.
You can. Pay for keys, go to Trading, make your offer. There are tons of people, kids especially, who just collect crates and trade some of them for keys that they can use to open the rest. Keys are the most reliable trading item since everyone uses them, whereas the items have comparatively limited appeal.
