Do I need to verify identity in order to trade?
Hey guys. Do I installed rocket league for my kid a long time ago via steam.

He wanted to do some trading the other night and it was asking for my email, or phone or something to verify identity.

Why is it asking this? I try not to put my phone and email out there too often as it just results in more and more spam etc.

Is there a way for him to trade without the verification? I think the pop-up was from epic games but I'm not totally sure. I don't know why I'd be verifying with them if I got the game via steam.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Because Epic Games owns Rocket League. You need an Epic account to trade.

hey there, as you can see from this page, there are some trading restrictions.

https://rocketleague.fandom.com/wiki/Trading

those restrictions are made to ensure players wont get scammed during trades.
so, in order to trade, all players must respect these criteria:

- An Email Verified Epic Games Account
- 2FA[www.epicgames.com] (Two-Factor Authentication) on your Epic Games Account
- At least 500 Credits or equivalent (Esports Tokens, Starter Pack, etc.) purchased, does not
apply to players who played before the Free To Play update
- Be Level 30
- At least 50 minutes of gameplay in Online Matches
- 50 minutes of gameplay is required on each platform account linked to your Epic Games Account in order to trade on that platform account

so yes, your kid may have asked for permission to verify the account by email in order to trade with other players.

also take into account two other things:
- the email may be required to verify the account, but also to enable 2-factors authentication, an additional measure used to increase the security of the account.
it consists in sending a code via email that must be entered every time a new device is accessed to verify identity and increase security.

- this procedure, in addition to the emails with the verification code, does not involve spam or further emails, which could still be deactivated using the appropriate "unsubscribe from our newsletter" button at the end of the email
