That's why you just have to practice. It just has to be slightly in the front-half, not in-front of you.

You can flick the ball at any time during a dribble, as long as you match the speed of the ball. If you're going slightly faster or slower than the ball when you jump, you will pop it up too high to reach it with your flip.

Remember that you need to flip towards the ball, so frontflip when its on the front of your car and backflip when its on the back of your car etc.
