Massive problems with FPS. [TEMP FIX FOUND][ POSSIBLE FIX NEED HELP]
READ FIRST EDIT 3 Ok very important as i want to test this if it actually works, because i found a fix. And if this actually works someone should be fired somewhere.

Being mad i again played around with stuff, turning of basically everything that could have anything to do with input etc. And what do you know at 250 fps it doesnt drop at all. Wait what, then what fixed it.

I turned everything of again and its back again, ok well something is broken.
Turned everything off again and started i turned on graphics one by one and nothing happens. (antialiasing makes it drop a bit but not significant so thats not it) then i went through other stuff camera stuff nothing changed it.

But then the magic option, i turned of the option for force feedback for controllers. poof drops were back. WAIT WHAT THAT ♥♥♥♥S THE GAME UP. I turned all graphics on at the max, and turned that off nothing no drops just butter smooth gameplay. turn it back on its godawfull again.

It does not matter if you turn it to light or to max vibration it ♥♥♥♥s up a lot, even so that going to steam ingame it lags steam ingame.

So please people help me people by trying the same thing if you have drops turn if off so we can pin this for rocket league support.

And to show the fix here is a video, which i had to do for rocket league support. https://youtu.be/uyDV8ZZ82tI

Original message below.

Ok so this started with huge FPS drops, and when i mean huge i mean dropping from 144 (its locked) to ~20-40-60fps (when someone scores it goes to around ~9)

To paint the picture this happens inside the game while playing (ranked or casual regardless of map or what is used on cars) The moment i touch a ball, play, land on the ground/wall, score, or someone else does the same.

So first specs well mine are way way way over what is needed. Intel 6700k @ 3.4ghz and 8 cores 4 psychical. Evga GTX1070 (tempo at 60 in game) 32 GB ram at 2300mhz. 144hz native screen. So no problem there.

Now for the menu thats even worse, when i go to garage the FPS drops from 144 to 1 or 2 FPS !!!. when i go to inventory exactly the same. when i scroll to iventory the game flips around from 20 to 40 to 30 to 60 to 35 to 90 to 20 you get the idea.

When i am in a group and someone changes his car or i change my car same thing it drops heavily. And i am not even on ultra settings as thats impossible to play. Putting it on the lowest setting makes it slightly better but only slightly (it drops to ~40-60-80 so maybe 20 more fps)

Right not all checks are off like bloom etc, world details and texture are on quality. 3 one is on lowest (forgot the name) vsync is off (makes it worse and maxes it to 60) and its on borderless (fullscreen makes it worse) And i tried changing everything inside the Nvidia config settings which didnt help at all.

I used the ingame FPS counter to see how bad it is (as i could see it with my eyes dropping in that flash of a second) and it was even worse then i could see. So far i let my friends do the same thing, and they all had the same (though most of them didnt notive the slight lagg that much)

So 2 questions who knows how to fix it as psyonix support is not providing valid options, and I would love if people could do the same as me and tell me we if they have the same.

Meaning that please turn on the performance graph and see if it drops all the time, then if you could post if it does or not. So i can use that in the psyonix support mail

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Ok so after some more going back and forth with rocket league and getting nowhere, i again went around the internet to hopefully find something new. And well i did sort off.

I found that the dropping is mostly know under developers as a heartbeat or frame timing. Explained here: https://medium.com/@alen.ladavac/the-elusive-frame-timing-168f899aec92 (older article) but i found it in a recent message on reddit from a guy with the same problem.
This actually doesnt really provide a fix, but it does provide information as to having stutters while still having a more or less stable frame rate. So i bit insight as to what i have. But this isnt the big problem and i can live with that.

The big problem was that i had major drops (sometimes dropping to 2 fps), and while i found many people with the same issue on google. (damn a lot have the same especially the last month) I found a guy that recently changed his old PC to a new PC. What he found after changing basically every option possible like me, he tried turning of hyperthreading. Which fixed his massive FPS drops.

So of course i tried doing the same, and lets just say its dubious. While it fixes most problems it provides other problems, and doesnt fully fix it. ill eleborate.

So first the drops touching a ball or other person or wall or floor does not provide drops anymore (sometimes it drops a frame or 2 but thats ok) Goal explosions still provide a drop to 60fps, but for playing thats not a problem. Thats the positive side.

The negative side is that it strains the CPU a lot, it went from 35% to 77% while playing the game, and when it goes too 100% for example at the goal explosion you can clearly see the CPU cant keep up and it starts to pause things (the game resulting in dropping frames)

This also means that rocket league is not made for hyperthreading (some games are and run really good like supreme commander)

Now i already sent a mail with this information to rocket league, and i asked them if they could patch hyperthreading in (i doubt that), or that maybe they could provide an option or patch in that rocket league only uses psychical cores and not virtual cores. This could actually be done.

Now my question is that when you have the same problem can you try turning off hyperthreading and look if that makes your game more stable, and report back here if it worked.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT 2 So providing information first, i bought a new CPU (intel i9 9900k) and a new motherboard. (gigabyte z390 aorus ultra). on a fresh install on windows only drivers and some programs.

Now you would say that would fix the drops right, because double the cores and faster clock speed (3.6 going up until 5.0ghz).

And well the only thing i can come up with is that this game is godawfull optimized.
The drops got even worse the game is now legit unplayable (as i get a freeze everytime i hit something) and i am really mad at this point.
Rocket league support is godawfull too even going as far as to say dropping frames are normal, well newsflash dropping frames is NOT normal. not even close to normal.

Please tell me someone actually knows how to fix this because after 700 hours i am so done with this game.

Dude i legt have no idea what's the problem with this game. I sometimes start the game and for no reason i run like 40 fps out of usual 144... and i have no idea how to fix this. I stopped speaking to RL support telling them that there are real issues in game but those st... id... tell me to verify cache, give them the logs of my dxdiag and update my graphic card.

Are they working with some indian company?

I have one issue with chrome which for some reason can make me lose permanently like 30 fps when watching streams, but it's just random, i tried opening 10 streams at the same time and it doesn't do nothin. It just gets triggered randomly out of nowhere. To fix it i have to close chrome and i get back the fps.

Maybe they use some chromium based plugin in their game to show the news on the main menu and that shares the same memory as chrome... which would make me seriously doubtful about the security lol

The other fps issue, where i start with 110 fps instead of 144 i have no idea how to fix.

In game i have no problem tho, i enabled that graph but i don't have fps issues what soever, until that random thing with chrome does something.

gtx 1080
r5 1600 2.8ghz
16 ram 2999mhz
144hz monitor

What i wonder is how many people are running 144fps. Maybe that's an issue with high fps. Cause i know a lot of noobs are running 60 fps on their laptops and preaching how they are master race.

Great thanks that actually something i can use atleast i am not alone with FPS isues but just liked you said lots of people give up and thats that. Which will never fix the issue.

What bothers me even more is that the game still runs on direct x9.0c while us modern games are already at directx 12. Its 3 gens behind on directx. It makes no sense.

I run Rocket League on a 144hz Gsync display and most of the time it plays very smoothly. Since the Dec 10 update, sometimes I get frame drops every ~5-10 seconds from 144 to 60-110. This persists until I restart my PC. For me, it's because my CPU is maxing out from something in steam/RL.

Rocket League normally takes ~60-80% CPU usage, but it's 10-20% higher in the snow maps.
@Pancake, I don't know how well Rocket League utilizes more than 4 cores, but maybe your CPU is bottlenecking?

I have had fps issues since last update, it is just random i have had it only twice but it is similar to op how there's a micro stutter before any physics interaction in game.
It has played absolutely well apart from those two times.

not gonna lie, the only drops i ever get are on casual matches when someone joins it mid game, im averaging at 300 frames, sometimes a little more or little less depending on the map, but i luckily dont experience stutters or drops on my system...

im gonna start boring by asking if you reinstalled the game already and if it still happened after? are you on the latest nvidia driver? i heard that on some games the latest 2 drivers are causing issues, maybe try reverting back to a different driver....

also if possible, if you got 2 screens, open up task manager and see if the usage tops out and check all the infos provided by it...

do you got the game installed on an hdd which is pretty old? the older hdd's get the slower they feel which maybe can cause stutters aswell?

my system has a ryzen 5 2600 and a palit 1070 gamerock with 16 gigs of ram at 3000mhz... we nearly have the identical gpu...

The inventory and car change thing is normal, it has always been like that in rocket league, it loads all the items or presets in hence why it takes a second and has a hiccup, if you say its starting to drop while you touch the ball or a goal is scored, maybe check your cpu usage, and/or your ram, as dumb as it sounds, try playing rocket league with one ram bit removed and see if it still stutters mid game, the menu stutters cant be fixed or worked arround, they can maybe get a little better but it will always loose frames while loading in new items.

my guess would be either ram which starts to live its last days, unusual cpu usage or a dying HDD if you got it installed on one. or the easiest trouble maker of them all, a bad driver from nvidia, since the last drivers were discussed in alot of game forums

Edit: a ssd can probably help with the menu stutters while opening inventory/garage/presets

Well someone who can actually formulate a sentence and have good formulated arguments thanks thats what i was looking for.

As of that the problems i have are from day one that i play this game, But while i could play with almost everything on ultra in the first couple months (still having micromatic stutters) it got worse and worse with every update. Sometimes it got slightly better sometimes it got even worse or unplayable. Gradually i dumbed down the settings, until now i basically i got nothing left.

I also tried letting my friends where i am more and more convinced its the game not my pc (il come to that in a second) One off them got basically the same but doesnt notice the microstutters like i do (his performance graph is the same and drops 100 FPS too.
Another example is one who plays on 90fps and has steady fps with sometimes a drop when the screen changes from ball cam to front view (something i dont have drops with he does) and it goes to 20 fps. But as he puts his max fps to 144 it suddenly is all over the place and stutters just like mine does. And putting his FPS to unlimited makes it even worse. (just like mine does)

As for my PC Ram is fine no problems there, HDD is fine no problems there, SSD is fine no problem there. Rocket league is reinstalled. GPU only goes up to 41% and CPU on to 45 to 50 % and all cores are used. (i even tried running the game on a single thread nothing changed) I also tried changing and forcing every single option in the NVidia settings which did nothing.

So far none of the other nvidia drivers worked as none of them took the microstutters away, but the last rocket league update made it worse. Nothing is unusual, and this seems to be something many people have. All i want to do at this point it show psyonix that it is indeed wide spread and not something isolated.

I also dont agree that going to the garage or walking through items is something to lag for, as many games have the same kind of menu without any problems. The only thing that could make it lagg is having the game ask for the information from the server which is a network problem, and has nothing to do with FPS. As loading it in should not make it go from 144 FPS to 0.34 Yeah i actually saw it drop to less then half off frame per second. I have never seen that before. Hell not even furmark (full gpu and CPU benchmark on max) is capable of getting the FPS even near that.

0.34 FPS how is that even possible, it would mean that something is so slow it couldn't even get a full frame in view in that second. Not even half a frame

hmmm, really dumb question number 2, you said you have a 144hz monitor, did you try and reset your monitor settings themselves? like with the buttons on the actual screen? try and play arround a little with those, maybe its a information problem between gpu and display which makes the frames drop? i remember a long time ago my buddy had some issues he couldnt get his head arround untill he noticed that somehow his screen settings where all over the place... apart from those listed suggestions i have no idea, but also not stumbled upon it myself...

last thing i could recommend is to make yourself smart about the rocket league config files, maybe if you temper a little with them you can gain a little performance back or fix it entirely

There isnt much to adjust other than standard stuff, besides that FPS means what the GPU puts out, this has not much to do with the screen. Once it's out there is nothing the display can do with it other then show what it gets. Unless v-sync is on or like a build in g sync or something like that usually a screen doesnt change anything about FPS. As it doesnt have to wait for the display to report back that it showed the frames. thats why if you go above 144 fps you might ge screen tearing because the GPU shows frames the screen cant so it skips the previous screens. This is not what is happening, what is happening is that the screen is showing only a fraction of what it is capable of (20 where it wants to show 144) and thats what giving the lag. What the screen does is trying to fill up those screens with blanks or the last showed frame.
mate , for real answer this question even though you mind find it stupid and you'd like to insult me. Are you currently using windows 10 on your pc? If yes did you update it from windows 8 or older?

Because i know what you are getting at, and i refuse to get bait trapped into your trolling.
Either formulate some actual fact/argument based feedback or dont come here.
And i never insulted you, asking with 1 sentence if i have windows 10 with no basis as to what you brought you there to ask that, is trolling. Now if you have arguments as to why you would ask that i would love to hear them first. and i would gladly answer them, this community is toxic as it is with a lot of people just going in threads telling people to go away and that they cant be negative because it hurts their own game view.

Either have a mature discussion with arguments and reasons why you ask something or please just dont come here at all.

The reason they're asking is because if you did an upgrade rather than a full install could cause some issues. Considering how you reacted to some of the others inside this very topic, they prefaced it with that statement.

So a little update cause this just got even worse in a very weird way.

So i finally got a supervisor from the support team, which again came up with the same list of useless options that. (all from the internet) So nothing new there.

Until i did the third thing he asked me to do (which was make a video showing the problems) And so i did, used three programs (because first 2 didnt have a high enough fps).
While doing that i noticed something, the game suddenly was playing a lot better, only dipping when scoring and only when actually playing. Menu and garage etc was still the same dipping and bad.

And after turning of the software, well what do you know it went back to playing bad during matches. I already wrote about it too the supervisor, but it was really weird to see the game react in that way.

Thats better feedback with a backed up reason and argument thank you. Well i did do a fresh install so no thats not it. But thanks for the help.

I have no answer here but i do want to say, you had some people who may not be as informed on pc stuff attempt to help you and you act like a complete (well you know) to the point that if I actually could help you i would not waste my time.

Point being, if you ask for help dont be a (you know what) and also do not forget to add in what steps you have already taken in your initial post and you will get better answers then what you decided were not good enough for you.
