RL got sued for selling "crates" with unknown contents. From the article:
Eligible Class Members are anyone in the United States who, at any point between July 1, 2015, and the date of preliminary approval, had a Fortnite or Rocket League account they used to play either game on any device, in any mode, and exchanged in-game virtual currency for an in-game benefit, or who purchased virtual currency or other in-game benefits for use within Fortnite or Rocket League.
Class Members filing valid claims can receive up to $50 or 1,000 Fortnite V-Bucks or Rocket League credits.
Epic Games is automatically depositing 1,000 V-Bucks — Fortnite’s virtual currency — or 1,000 Rocket League Credits into the accounts of U.S. players who purchased a random-item loot box.
That will be per person, it equates to million of dollars in the settlement, I may have spent 50 or so bucks on lootboxes in the early days but I did get a black market and a good few exotics, which back then was doing well. I don't think I qualify for the actual class action lawsuit to fight for more compensation as I am not located in the US where the legal battle has taken place, but even if I was I'm not going to enter a lawsuit over 50 bucks, that can be earned in a few hours of work and I think its more aimed at those who spent thousands/tens of thousands of dollars, but the limit of what they will get in return after the work of digging out all that evidence again seems like a lot of work and digging for a little return, remember this of not affecting Psyonix or Epic financially as they are paying in credits, a currently they can print at will and has no real world value what can only be spent on their products. We all knew something like this was coming the game for a while was an ageless slot machine without a gambling license. I wonder how many other games this new precedent will affect.... looking at you FIFA.

This notice concerns a proposed Settlement to resolve claims in the lawsuit Zanca et al. v. Epic Games, Inc., Case No. 21-CVS-534, pending in the Superior Court of Wake County, North Carolina. The Plaintiffs in that case have filed an action against Defendant Epic Games, Inc. (“Epic Games”) alleging that Epic Games violated state consumer protection laws, prevented minors from exercising their contractual disaffirmation rights, and negligently misrepresented the value of its in-game items in connection with its Fortnite and Rocket League videogames.
Am I A Member Of The Settlement Class?
You are receiving this notice because Epic Games’ records indicate that you might be a Settlement Class Member. You’re a member of the Settlement Class if, at any time between July 1, 2015 and February 25, 2021, you had a Fortnite or Rocket League account that you used to play either game on any device and in any mode, and (a) exchanged in-game virtual currency for any in-game benefit, or (b) made a purchase of virtual currency or other in-game benefit for use within Fortnite or Rocket League.
What Can I Get From The Proposed Settlement?
Automatic V-Bucks or Credits. As part of the Settlement, Epic Games will automatically add 1,000 Fortnite V-Bucks to each Fortnite account which was used to acquire a “Loot Llama” loot box, and 1,000 Rocket League Credits to each Rocket League account which was used to acquire a “Crate” loot box, the contents of which were not known before opening. Settlement Class Members do not need to do anything to obtain these benefits.
Cash Compensation or Additional V-Bucks/Credits. In addition, Epic Games has agreed to make up to $26,500,000.00 available to pay individuals who submit Approved Claims, as well as settlement administration costs, attorney’s fees and expenses, and Incentive Awards to the Plaintiffs. You may submit a Claim Form for additional compensation for any real money in-game purchase(s), including real-money purchases of Fortnite V-Bucks or Rocket League Credits, that you believe give(s) rise to a claim of consumer fraud, breach of contract, or any other claim for damages. On the Claim Form you will need to describe how you have been damaged or harmed by your real money purchase(s) (or, if you are seeking a refund of a virtual currency purchase, the damage or harm that resulted from or related to your use or attempted use of that virtual currency in the game) and why that damage or harm entitles you to a benefit. You may also submit a Claim Form if you wish to obtain a refund for a real-money purchase you made as a minor with your own money and without parental permission. Each Settlement Class Member who submits an Approved Claim will be entitled to receive their choice of either a cash award (up to $50.00, in the form of a check mailed to you or direct deposit) or Fortnite V-Bucks or Rocket League Credits (up to 13,500 V-Bucks or 13,000 Credits). There is a limit of one Claim Form per videogame per Settlement Class Member (for a maximum of 2 Claim Forms), and each Settlement Class Member may receive either a cash award or V-Bucks/Credits for each game.
To make a claim for cash compensation or V-Bucks or Credits, you must submit a Claim Form online at www.EpicLootboxSettlement.com, or print the Claim Form and email it to the Settlement Administrator at claims@epiclootboxsettlement.com, or mail it to the Settlement Administrator at the address provided on the Claim Form. A Claim Form must be submitted online, emailed, or postmarked by April 26, 2021.

If you do not want to be legally bound by the settlement, you must exclude yourself by April 12, 2021. If you do not exclude yourself, you will release any claims you may have, as more fully described in the Settlement Agreement, available at the settlement website, www.EpicLootBoxSettlement.com. You may object to the settlement by April 12, 2021. The detailed Long Form Notice available on the settlement website explains how to exclude yourself or object. The Court will hold a hearing on May 6, 2021 at the Superior Court of Wake County, North Carolina, 316 Fayetteville St. Mall, Raleigh, NC 27601, to consider whether to grant final approval of the Settlement, a request by Class Counsel for attorney’s fees, costs and expenses of up to $11,300,000, and Incentive Award payments of up to $75,000 total for the Class Representatives. The motion for these fees and expenses will be posted on the settlement website when it is filed with the Court. You may appear at the hearing (which may be conducted remotely at the Court’s direction), subject to the requirements set by the Court, either yourself or through an attorney hired by you, but you are not required to do so. I got the e-mail today. I started this thread three days ago after reading a story on the lawsuit.
They have given 1000 credits globally on their own, the lawsuit however was filed in the US and that is where it is being actioned for US Citizens, I'm almost sure.
The website is using the location drop down menu found on all online forms by default, they have simply not removed the other countries from the script.
If you look at the 2nd paragraph of the link that's on the email it states that:
"Settlement Class means all persons in the United States who, at any time between July 1, 2015, and February 25, 2021, had a Fortnite or Rocket League account that they used to play either game on any device and in any mode, and (a) exchanged in game virtual currency for any in-game benefit, or (b) made a purchase of virtual currency or other in-game benefit for use within Fortnite or Rocket League."
The US courts have no jurisdiction in Europe, no matter the level of court outside of the United Nations, and this is not the kind of case they would handle. The only way anyone outside of the USA will have any more given to them will be at the mercy of Epic themselves giving out compensation, of credits that can only be spent on their own games and cost them absolutely nothing to generate and distribute, they have pulled a fast one, or were up against a legal team who had no idea Credits are simply assets in the game with no real money exchangeable value within the TOS of the game, they are literally being ordered to pay legal fees and give away some fake currency as a ruling for shady gambling practices involving kids. The Legal system, it works....
