How can I find a specific player (friend)

I would like to play Rocket League online with a friend. I know his in-game name. But I can't find how to actually connect with him, there doesn't appear to be a 'search by username' function or similar. Can anyone help?

add him with the friend list in game, bottom right corner when you're in main menu

Is that 'Add Epic Friend'? It's telling me there's no user with that ID, is this maybe a cross-platform thing (I'm PC Steam, he's PS5)?

If it hasn't been too many games since you played with him, you should be able to find him on the Recent Players list.
