+2000 hrs and still stuck in Plat/Dia
Hi,
I've been playing RL since launch.
I liked the game so much that I gifted it to my mates in 2017
They started to play when I was at like 800 hours and plat.
Since then we almost play it twice a week in 1 hour sessions after RBS or now Warzone.
I had more time so I now have 2000 hrs.

Problem is, I cannot improve. After 2000+ hours I am wondering how tf he did that upside down goal.
Right now, we are at plat 3 - dia 1. The plat 3 guy is me...

I tried flying maps like trials1, hard to finish it in under 4 minutes and no freestyling involved.
I just cant control my car.
I considered a coach but I don't know if this would help.

You need more practice. If I had to make a guess you are probably always playing inside your comfort zone and scared of messing up. Just let it go and go for the wildest things. In the beginning you'll rank lower. After a while you're gonna get a lot better, and after you have, you can start properly analyzing positioning and which ball you actually should contest.

Choosing one thing to focus on at a time really helped me improve.

Thank you for the comment, Sen.
The game is just so fast, I would really like to make some 2000-hrs-worth moves. Not much, just maybe be able to make an wall to air-dribble.

I did improve in 7000 hours. I just didn't improve to champion. At 2000 hours I was probably gold 1- gold 3. At 7000 hours I'm more like plat 2 - diamond 2. How much you will improve depends on a lot of factors. Some of them, like the graphical performance of your PC may not be fully under your control. Others, like your camera settings or the controller or controller settings you use may hold you back without you even realizing there is a problem. Some of them like the amount of hours you spend doing practice drills you have full control over and I admittedly don't spend much time doing that at all. I just play the game for fun and I am skilled enough to have fun so that's good enough for me.

I have 2,3k hours and I always have bad mates. That's my main problem right there.

got 4k and im diamond 3, granted, im a freestyler, maybe i could help ya out, keep in mind advanced mechanics like flip resets ceilling shots and the like arent necessary, they do help a bit tho, add me and i'll try to help out

Being in Diamond shall be enough as the rest, more than 70 % of the playerbase, is ranked lower.

Advanced mechanics would be nice to have, but you have to practise a ton to learn how to do them. I cant do them at all. Wall shots, air dribbles and tricks are foreign language to me, but I've still somehow managed to crawl to C2-3 and even GC this season.

hello mate. i think 1 hour twice a week is not "enough" to learn these high skill mechanics you mention. the players you see doing these moves, spend hours and hours in free training or training packs trying to learn the moves, so later they can perform them in matches. i personally feel incapable of playing properly if i don't spend some time chilling in free training before playing. sometimes i get distracted in there trying wall shots or dribbling for 30 minutes or more before getting in a match.

in my case, i struggle a bit playing soccar because i play on an old laptop and i have really bad fps drops on some maps. maybe if your PC is not very good you have a harder time too. i find my game works worse and worse with every single update. but this issue is not that bad when i play hoops, because the map is smaller and it's always the same, without so many details like some of the soccar maps have

good luck!!

Being at about the same level you are op, why your stuck is not your lack of high level mechanics, it really is more likely game speed. As you move up in the ranks the speed of your opponents around Diamond lvl really increases. It is very subtle at that point and you might not notice it yourself since not everyone is playing faster and it is not GC faster so that it is obvious.
The way it hit me was playing with some champ friends with 2 different playstyles, 1 plays aggressive the other more passive but both played much faster than i did. After a few session playing with them I started playing faster myself and started gaining mmr.

As a person who never was able to carry my teamates, i started to be able to carry lower ranked friends in games because of this. In RL the higher you go in the ranks half a second makes a massive difference. Your ability to play faster is even more important when you do not have the ball then when you do so you are always in the right spot on the field.

2 things i do to try and give myself a mental reset in regards to speed are free play just hitting the ball around the field (with limited boost so you need the pads) and not letting it bounce more than once, and unfair bot matches to force myself to recover faster on mistakes even though bots are horrible players with 3 of them on the field if you make a mistake you really need to hustle to recover and when doing this i force myself to think of the back wall as the entire goal for them.

Try to learn difficult mechanics like flip resets and stuff. It generally improves your overall gameplay. When you do ring maps, try to make it as hard as you can for yourself (air rolling and all the fun stuff). And even though nearly everybody hates it, but 1s is good to work on your consistency.

I hope this helps you as much as it helped me to improve.

Thanks for the advice, I will try to make more freeplay and on flying maps I try to make it more difficult and also I'll play more 1s. (I normally just play them after a few beers and let the silvers win :)
A few months ago I switched to boost on RB - I think it helps alot now. Also left roll I assigned for that backwards half flip. In game I struggle alot but I am positive to get better with time.
