Need a little help from the community, just fitted a hdmi cable to pc and monitor and its dropped fps to 60
(amazonbasics high speed hdmi cable with ethernet e202888)thats the cable im using with BenQ XL2420T (HDMI) monitor

Does anyone know how i can get around this? I was using a standard vga cable getting around 120 fps which i lock my game too, monitor supports above 120 so im guessing the hdmi cable is to blame or do i have to go into some settings to adjust resolution, power management etc?
Im playing 1920x1080 at 60 fps before it was higher (on the vga cable over 120)

Any input appreciated

It's likely the cable, but poke around in your graphics card software (Nvidia Control Panel or whatever AMD calls their software nowadays) and see if there's something in there.

Far as I can tell, the HDMI cable is limited to 60hz. Nothing's actually wrong, but it is the cable.

Apparently you need a DisplayPort cable to fix this.

This was the issue I had when I got a 144hz monitor. I was disappointed to see I could only get 60fps through HDMI.

I used DVI instead of DisplayPort, but I'd expect DisplayPort to work, too. Smooth 144fps.

Any problems with DVI? Any big advantages of DP over DVI? At some point I'm going to need to replace my monitor, and my current video card can do both DP and DVI, but I want to be sure of which cable I'll need so I don't end up having to call Jim Carrey. Because he's creepy.

It's been perfectly fine for me, but I'm only using DVI cause my only options were that and HDMI. lol

I'd expect DisplayPort to be better somehow, just because it's the newest. I haven't really done any research into it, though.
