How does the in game "hours played" work?
Hi, I recently got back to rocket league and on steam it says that I have played 23 hours on rocket league but in rocket league it says that I have played 11 hours. So I am guessing that on steam it is more because it was just running in the background. I honestly don't know.
I know it doesn't make any difference but I am pretty curious.

Thanks......

you have it exactly right steam counts your total time with the game open, in game counts the total time played.

Also in-game time was implemented only from some season.

Steam play time hours is how long you're playing while the game is open.

Rocket League play time hours is an accumulation of time spent during in matches.

Rocket League is more accurate than Steam.

It depends. For example it could be valuable Information in Steam if you spent a lot of time in training.

But for Skill/Rank I agree with this funny explanation on this Twitch clip, which they have in Discord Server command = !skillvshours :

Training doesn't count towards Rocket League's play time. Notwithstanding, play time hours doesn't reflect a player's skill. The only amount of time: personal time. It's how much time you're willing to put in the effort.
