I wouldn't start ranked until I master basic mechanics of game and complete at least pro training in all 3 aspects.
Winning matches increase your "points" and losing decreases them. Earning enough points gets you to the next division, there are 5 division per rank.
Once in a match it is better to complete it because forfeiting is equal to losing which decreases your rank.
Leaving a match when playing 2v2 or 3v3 without your teammates forfeiting will result in a ban that won't let you play online during 15 minutes.
3v3 solo means you'll get in a match of 3v3 where no one is in a party, 6 random people play together.
Finally since you have never played competitive matches you have no rank, in this case you have to play 10 matches to allow the system to assign you an appropriate time for your skill level.
Don't let losing games get you down, you'll probably find a lot of people that take the competitive mode far to seriously and don't sorry about training or people telling you you shouldn't start playing yet, just do it and have fun. I have never trained since I started playing and I'm doing pretty good.
Wish you luck.
