How does casual matchmaking work?

Does it attempt to match you with others at your rank or is it just random? I find myself being ranks with for more skilled players and not having any fun. can i reset my rank or something, i'm not that good but seems to be matched with player who hit mid-air 80% of the time and drag the team down. just would like a more balanced "casual" match. thoughts?

It relies on a hidden mmr value, the same as ranked except each mode (2’s, 3’s etc) doesn’t have an individual mmr value. You can track your casual mmr on rocket league tracker or use a mod like bakkes mod.

If I'm lucky, I'll get a nice and even game.

Then you're not in the MMR you belong. Or you just ballchase the whole time and get frustrated at your team.

thats a shame. it would be nice to reset your rank or something. i now HATE rocket league because i play it casually and now stuck with ultra competitive and highly skilled players.

Just play and lose allot, thats what i do in casuals.
i just started and have also the problem to play against better people in casuals.
Then i just switch to ranked ( same skill level of me all the time, we dont win allot there )

In addition, MMR in casual is less restrictive than ranked.

hey, its all relative. if your MMR should be like 300, then those 600 players probably seem REALLY good. they use all those advanced elite techniques...you know...like using boost and the jump button!...sometimes EVEN AT THE SAME TIME! LOL.

Oh yeah absolutely, I’m genuinely questioning the tracker here as I’m on my phone but I was getting at the point you made.

Casual and ranked have different MMR's.

People that play ranked a lot of times use casual for a quick warm up game. As such they don't have a lot of games in casual and so you will run into them more often in the gold range MMR.

it works like ranked in that you have a secret MMR but it's way worse because the skill gap is insanely huge because high ranked players can have low casual MMR or just lower than their ranked MMR in general. So it'll be very hard to find a game where everyone is on the same skill lvl. I'd suggest playing ranked, sure you can't leave when you want but at least the matches are more fair and you get rewards as long as you arent unranked :)
