Problems with controller detection.
Hey,

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem before, or might know what is wrong. I play Rocket League on Windows using a Xbox controller connected via a USB cable. Lately, for some reason when my PC has already been running and my controller is connected, the PC has confirmed it is installed and connected and I boot up Rocket League the controller isn't working on it, yet it works elsewhere...It asks me to press the start button on the controller to join, so that already tells me it has detected the controller in the game but won't let me use it...(Weird I know) and when I press start, it connects me to the game but in split screen mode, as if there are two players.

I have tried restarting steam and then connecting the controller, I have tried changing USB ports, is there some settings I need to change or? I even bought a new controller and it's doing the same thing. The only time it works is when I completely restart my computer which I shouldn't need to do, could this be a technical problem with my system as oppose to Rocket League?

Thanks for reading and I hope someone can get back to me on this.

Make sure "generic controller support" is disabled from steam options.

Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings

Tried that, still the same stuff happening. Could it be trouble with Rocket League?

UE3 is from 2004. And who cares it's 2019. Seems it's a computer issue.

This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible to play on PC. Hardly ever detects controller. And crashes / freezes on a consistent basis. On the Xbox One, however, there's never an issue. It's definitely a matter of patching whatever the ♥♥♥♥ is wrong with the PC version. It's ridiculous.

You guys have to go to the steam properties of rocket league and set "steam input per-game setting" to "forced OFF" then it will automatically detect ps4/xbox one/360 controllers. It was default set on because of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ steam controller/steam link stuff.

- Uninstall any 3rd party driver or gamepad software.
- Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Then delete any other gamepad drivers. Mostly it's duplicates causing the problem so delete the dupes. Right click on any dupes and select Remove Device. {First pic in link shows a dupe}
Also check Device Manager - Xbox Peripherals (Expand) right click on any dupes and select uninstall. {2nd pic in link} [you could remove them all, reboot and then plug your gamepad in.]

Steam and Windows 10 are nutty together. Sometimes I need to update Windows and then reboot, then launch Steam and only then does it update to Steam's most cuurrent version. (When before it showed up to date)

Some people have to mess with some setting mentioned by other posters but you may find this helpful...
Search this: steam big picture controller settings

If nothing helps, you should get Steam and Psyonix to open a ticket. The more people who can join you to provide more examples will help.
