Controller input lag on and off
Hi,

I have contacted Psyonix support with this issue and they have been unable to provide a solution. Asking here is a long shot but i am out of options so i'm going to try anyway.

I'm experiencing input delay with my Xbox One controller. It happens on and off to the point where sometimes i have total control of my car and sometimes it is delayed slightly. I am using a USB cable.

Like i said i have contacted Psyonix about this. All the things they made me try have been unable to solve the problem. I've done everything from trying another controller, different cables and USB-ports to reinstalling the driver and steam (+ all of my games) entirely. I've stripped the processes and services on my computer down to the bare minimum that is required to function. Nothing helps.

I'm out of ideas at this point.

Your thoughts?

I have disabled the steam control feature in-game. The problem occurs both when it is enabled or disabled. I have turned the steam input in Steam library -> Rocket League -> Properties to "Forced Off". Doesn't help. Having it on makes no difference either. I've tried disabling steam overlay for the game entirely as well.

It is a genuine Microsoft Xbox One controller.

These types of problems are sometimes almost impossible to trace down. Have you only noticed this in Rocket League or does it occur in other games as well? Assuming you're on Windows, you can open the controller's properties and watch a realtime map of the input as you move the controls. If you can see it lag here, then it's definitely on your end. (Not saying that you will - it's just a test scenario.)

The input lag sounds intermittent to me, is that correct? If you're using Windows, you *may* be able to go into Event Viewer (I'm running Win7, so it may be called differently on a different platform) and look at what services and events are triggering and the timestamps that they start/stop and see if that correlates to the instances of intermittent lag-spikes that you see. While you're there, dig around and see if any system errors could be related. (Driver/process crashes, etc)

It's a good place to start, anyways. I've self-diagnosed a few similar issues over the years this way. Others aren't really that easy to find, and I've found it much more time efficient to just bite the bullet and reinstall the OS - this would prove without a doubt that it's not software related on your end, which is what the issue sounds like to me.

Thanks for the reply.

I am using Win7 too. Where would i go for the controller's properties that you mentioned? As far as i know that is a Win10 feature (or so i've been told).

I'll give the event viewer a look that is a good idea.

You can see the input map of your controller via the controller properties found in the Devices and Printers window.

Start>Devices and Printers(right hand side of Start Menu)>Right-click controller for Game Controller Settings>Properties

I've had this problem for 2 years, Xbox 360 controller and over the course of 3 monitors and 2 pcs. Ultimately, I literally can't figure this problem out and I've dropped from champ 2, to diamond 1 because of this and I'm very depressed. This is the one game I've ever stuck with and the problem is still here. i9, 2080ti, 32 GB of RAM, Ethernet, quantum fios, vsync off, OneFrameThreadLag is off as well. I've spent way over $10k total trying to fix this problem. Does anyone have a DEFINIITE solution just like turning off McAfee to prevent alpha console and rocket league from crashing?

Same for me, i have had this problem for 3 years, so happy to see that other has it aswell.
I have bought 3 new PC rigs becourse of that (yes im crazy, but have the money) but it has cost me a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fortune.

A couple of days ago i plugged in a PS4 controller. The game works like a charm now.
So something is up with the Xbox controller (i have been using 3 different controllers and Pro models from Xbox, and its all the same with all of them and rocket league)

Psyonix or Steam must try to sort this ♥♥♥♥ soon, i think way more people then us have this problem. So its not in our heads as many says regarding heavy car bug etc. Its for real and it has to do with the Xbox controller.

I have started to re-learn the muscle memory now with the PS4 controller, i wount change back to Xbox (i prefer the xbox controller if i must chose one) before i know there is fix for this.

I dont have the problem in other games, only rocket league.

Keep it up lads. Regards...a 43 year old game nerd.

This continues to happen for me even with a PS4 controller. Sometimes changing accounts helps for some reason. Makes me believe it could be related to how steam handles my inputs.

Yea, same for me after a while with the PS4 controller....
Im giving up RL now.

Noticed that game doesent give me points for saves etc in many cases, im allways last to hit the ball etc. So something is really odd with the game. No it aint me beeing bad or my internet connection. It is something with RL or Steam or both of them together. Before dropshot update i never had these problems so something changed.

I had RL on my PS4 console and it was the same on that one after the Dropshot update

I could let anybody come here and try themself becourse i know there is many people out there without this problem who makes it easy and blame us instead of the game.

I have been an supporter and payed quite alot of money on skins etc to support the game, but now they will have to look for somebody else regarding that.

I have the exact same problem, it's costing me nearly every game I play, has anything worked for you?

People convincing themselves of their own madness.. Heavy car bug does NOT exist. Cope with it or play more to stay constant.

Nobody mentioned anything about a heavy car bug, but you're probably right, I'm sure you know more about the problem OP is having with his own game more then they do. Very valuable contribution.

I have this on everygame and recently found out its power issues in your house....especially rocket league its terrible and heavy... feels like my car is light as a feather one minute then next minute its heavy and sluggish and doesnt fly through the air as easily and when you handbrake it feels like its on ice and the next minute its responsive... its impossible to adapt becuase its constantly changing.

Anybody who says heavy car isnt real is just ignorant and doesnt have the problem...
Ive played at a mates house a few times and on RL i can play muchhh better hitting everything everygame.. then i come back to my pc and its just trash cant hit anything....

I think the more powerful your pc the worse the feeling is because of the power issues in some of our houses..... everyone i know who has the problem allways say they have a beast of a pc

Ive done a tonne of research and i think there is a slight fluctuation in the voltage and drops frequently (especially in old houses with old wiring).... The motherboard and cpu are constantly confused by this and fluctuate themselves... im not 100% this is the problem but i do have slight voltage drops through the day and then late at night it settles down a little
