if you want to know how to report it, ofc it'll be bannable.

Smurfing is entirely legal. There's no law against playing this game for a year on XBox, growing up, getting that first job, joining the PC Master Race, and buying a new copy of this game for PC.

Smurfing is not illegal, just frowned upon. Kind of like counting cards.

It's highly depends.

A) If you're migrating from a different platform, and your attentions is to play honorably to get where you need to be, then no. It's not smurfing.

Or...

B) To purposely derank and/or stay in the lower ranks to bully the less experienced players, then yes. You'll be punished for it.

just had a team of 3 and their ranks were gold 3 diamond 1 and diamond 3 and diamond 1 guy had under 20 hours on his profile and he said that he has another account with c3 so i dont know how do i report this situation . For me its looking like boosting that gold 3 to a better rank.

Only played the game for the free weekend (had seen it on youtube and it looked like a ton of fun so I gave it a shot) but after the weekend, I will not buy this game mainly because of the smurfing. I just do not see the point as a beginner going agaisnt people who obiously know what they are doing ad always ending up 0:6 because that one guy makes all the goals while the other noobs in both teams do basically nothing.

Many players made new accounts this weekend just to show off in lower ranks or to boost someone. Perfect opportunitywithout buying the game. Tomorrow this accs are not playing anymore

thats not true at all
In a recent update, Psyonix added a new entry in the list of available offenses when you report a player: "AFK / Item Farming".

They did NOT add "smurfing" to the list. There was no point.

Even if it was a bannable offense (which it isn't) it would be impossible to prosecute. There's no way to detect a genuine smurf without a level of snooping into your online records that would go well past "omg spyware invasion of privacy big brother is watching u" levels. It's impossible to tell if a player is legitimately very, very good at this game right out the starting gate (which they will be, if they played the prequel).

Therefore, deal.

Nah, it isn't bannable, it isn't even really detectable depending how you do it.

Until Psuckonix makes it so you can't multi-account so easily and requires some kind of more formal registration for ranked accounts smurfing is the way of RL. They can blow smoke up your ass in their CoC all they want. The fact is, if they don't fix the multiaccounting, comp will always remain a bit of a joke in this game.

It simply destroys ranked, or the idea that you can possibly even establish MMR. The entirety of ranked is a complete joke because of it and has been since day 1.

But you know who cares, car soccer, right? Just don't think rank matters for a second because there's a billion ways to manipulate it and even if YOU don't the majority of the player base does. It only gets worse with narrower, easier-to-shenanigan tiers.

The game is becoming nothing but a trash fest ♥♥♥♥ show like all of Dota and LoL migrated in the last year anyway.

After like 3-4 bans now, I'm just going to make a bot that rams teammates and spams what a save!

Instead of engaging these ♥♥♥♥ stick trolls Psuckonix thinks you should just tolerate in their game I'm going to tick Mr Ram-Bot on, and go make a sandwich.

If you can buy the game at all, you can multi-account it.

Obviously I hit the nail square on the head.

Because the nail is whining.

I'm familiar with CS:GO. Why? Because it's mentioned so often in HERE, as the quintessential example of online gaming failure. More trolls than StarCraft (and THAT is saying a LOT), still filled with smurfs even after Prime, and, a week ago, when I took a peek at the reviews for that game, the FIRST review I looked at said, in exactly these words, "so toxic the developers gave up trying to control the toxicity".

The answer is no. This is the INTERNET, and you can't control smurfing in a system whose basic hallmark is anonymity.

Side note: it wouldn't surprise me at all if it turned out Prime matchmaking was merely a scam to collect players' phone numbers for sale to some datamining company somewhere..........

Yeah because it isn't like systems such as that exist in anything like CSGO.

That's CS:GO, not Rocket League. Valve were either pushed to that point or preemptively enacted restrict rules.

A new player will probably get matched up against and with some people that are much better than themselves for awhile because your matchmaking rank does not start out at the lowest possible value. If you want to play against the worst players you will have to lose a number of games to "prove" that you are that poor of a player. Likewise if you are an outstanding player, you'll have to win against below average players for awhile before you will convince the matchmaker that you merit a higher class of opponents. In the long run, this game is playable for people of all skill levels but in the short term there will be a learning period of 40 or more games for the matchmaker to figure out just how good of a player you are.

I did the research. CS:GO Prime doesn't work, and the reason hardly anybody else uses such a system is because they know it doesn't work and aren't going to waste the development funds.

You can't fix a problem if you can't find the source of it to begin with. Smurfing is almost impossible to prove, and I already explained why.

The "smurfing" claim is just an excuse. Most of the time, the accusations of smurfing are bullcrap. Players usually think they're better than they really are, and many of them automatically assume anybody better than them in their bracket must be cheating.
Subak Jul 8, 2018 @ 10:02pm
I did the research and you are willfully ignorant, a troll, or just some kid afraid of verification causing you hassle, maybe all of the above.

It mitigates smurfing plus all sorts of other rank manipulation.

You say it 'doesn't work', but it's pretty easy to write that off as your idiocy since any barrier to smurfing is going to be better than none, for the players anyway. Over the course of thousands of hours of play time, the 'cost' to the player of verification that takes < 5 minutes is virtually zero.

But hey, why try to cultivate a good competitive experience when you can make more money just watering down a frustrating sub-mediocre one?
