teammate pov camera?
guys, why the ♥♥♥♥ not? if you have played portal 2 coop you know what im talking about. what about a button that you can toggle on/off or just hold down, that pops a small screen on a corner of your screen, showing your teammate's point of view? I would use the ♥♥♥♥ out of it, and would be great to coordinate passes, shots etc. why is this not a thing yet?! psyonix hear me out!

I don't think they really listen to much of what's posted here. A bunch of us asked and asked for a horn mechanic for the vehicles a while back. Pretty simple stuff, and were some of the first players. Maybe they'd help us out, right?

Yeah wrong. Not even somewhat. They don't want our ideas. They don't care about our problems. Doesn't matter if we helped get the ball rolling. They don't give a damn.

Sorry, man.

How many of those little features do we need?
A team mate cam...
A feature showing how much boost mates have (yes someone already asked for it).
Maybe add a feature that the ball automaticaly gets passed to the closest mate.
We also need an autopilot that drives the car for us :P

How easy do you want the game to get if they add all those features? Honestly, features like this aren't needed if you know how to communicate with your team.

I hear you. I just wanted a horn. Limited use per match, like a boost tank you can't refill. Maybe throw some sound effects of varying rarity into crate circulation. No music though. Some animal noises. Emergency service sirens from around the globe. Carter II air raid siren. Maybe a fart or two, severity increasing with rarity, obviously.

Really, the possibilities are endless, but it's nothing fancy.

That's Portal 2 and this is Rocket League. Psyonix said themselves they will NOT add anything that enhances player awareness. It supposed to be simulate a real sport. So no.

Tbh i can drive the car and pass the ball myself. And what im suggesting isnt really a gamebreaking feature, the game still will be difficult as it is and considering the opposing team will also have the teammate cam, the games should be much more challenging and entertaining.

I dont care about a mechanic that tells me about my mates boost amount, he can just tell me or quick chat it. And communicating with your teammates can only go so far, even if you are on voice comms there can still be misunderstandings. Whereas with a teammate cam you can accurately determine how your mate is going to hit the ball, where its exactly gonna go or how a 50/50 will work out. Im not asking psyonix to make the game easier, im suggesting a way it can be more fun for everyone.

Maybe you are right, Im just gonna hope that one of the game developers suddenly wake up with the idea of a matecam and implement it into the game. And although I like the idea of a horn mechanic, I can see a lot of ways it can be abused. Would love to see a proper version of it if I can tho.

They outright said horns were never going to be used, a completely useless and irritating feature that would be used to grief.

As to OP, that idea is awful and goes against the core idea behind the game, learning your surroundings, reading the ball and opponents and being social with a friend. It would clutter the GUI and would take the focus off the game.

Another bad idea like the minimap one.

You can still be aware of your surroundings, read the ball and your opponents all the while still be on comms with your mate and have the matecam anyway. It does not in anyway disable you from improving yourself with the things you listed. Plus, the cam I had in mind is not probably as gigantic as you think. You should be able to toggle it or hold a button down for it so it would be easy for you to shut it down when necessary. While I agree with minimap being a bad idea, this could really be a way to make games more entertaining.

They usually tell people to post ideas to the subreddit, and they'll address it if the idea gets upvoted enough. This is how they gauge community interest, and frankly, it's the best way to do so.

A forum post with 100+ comments from the same four people talking about how Psyonix won't listen to their ideas doesn't tell them anything. A reddit post with 8000 upvotes tells them that there are 8000 people in the subreddit community that would be interested.

So you're free to post this idea to the subreddit, but I don't expect it to make much of an impact. It's a big change that I can't imagine many people would see as a positive.

Thats so true. Ive never known psyonix to make a game change based on community suggestions but they are not in an effort to improve the game mechanics themselves. Reddit sounds like a good idea, i might just post it there and see how it goes, but then again like you said, the chances of this idea making an impact are very slim. Thanks for the advice tho.

They've made lots of changes based on community suggestions. They offered the banner season rewards without the dragons when everyone requested it, They made the diamond wheels from Season 6 brighter by request, They added the map preference system and removed non standard maps from ranked by request... Even changing to a chat ban for text harrassment instead of a game ban in the next update is by request. And going way back, they added a toggle for enabling/disabling crossplay because people wanted it.

More upcoming changes from requests include better inventory management, item stacking for crates, more primary colors, the ability to have different cars per team, and the ability to disable all chat except for team quickchats.

They listen all the time. It just needs to be a popular enough suggestion.

Yeah it makes sense when you put it like that. In any case, do you know if the idea of a matecam has been suggested or argued before on Reddit? If so why has it been shut down or it just didnt get popular enough?

I don't think I've ever seen it on reddit, but people have proposed it here before.

But it's a drastic change to the interface, and it's a change to how you build out your game awareness. Right now, the gameplay and the player awareness is just about as intuitive as it gets. It's a physics-based game where you hit a ball into a net, and what you know is based on what you see.

It's an incredibly straightforward system that is instantly understandable and doesn't have any learning curve to figure things out. This is also why it's such a great spectator sport- I can show my dad a clip of the game, and he can understand it as an awesome play or a complex move, with absolutely no understanding of video games. You just know something is impressive because it looks impressive.

Add to that a minimap, a teammate cam, team boost levels, and whatever else, and you just end up with information overload. Both for spectators, and for new players getting into the game. It also undermines the skill of developing game awareness if you start adding additional tools to assist with it, and lowers the skill ceiling as a result.

I think you are a bit overestimating the impact of a teammate cam to the game. Maybe Im not seeing it as you do but the way I see it, a cam mechanic like that would mean less mistakes, less free-goals, more overall competitive games. You would still play the way you do, only with a more collected and accurate playstyle which is good.

I used to play this game horizontal splitscreen with my mate and a little glimpse at his side of the screen during plays would help out a lot. So by putting a real smaller version of that to a corner is not a huge change, its already there, only available to splitscreen players but its not as convenient as it can be with a few modifications.

For the record, I am against any other stuff like minimaps or team boost bars or whatever. But this game is 1000 times more fun when you can work with your teammate and a cam enables just that. Ultimately we all play this game to have fun.
Shadowspaz Mar 30, 2018 @ 3:35pm
As I said, you can post it to the subreddit. But really, the information you would gain from a teamcam is nothing you won't eventually gain by just improving your overall reading ability. That's why I don't think it'll gain any traction.

I completely agree that the game is more fun when you can work with your team. That's kind of the whole point. But you don't need a cam to do that, and when you just inherently know where your teammates are, you can just focus on your part. It's all about building trust and confidence.

LOL, you absolute maniac. Useless? Irritating? Brother, my car has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rainbow Afro right now. Everything glows, everything is animated, every boost sounds worse than the one before it.

We left usefulness behind a long time ago.
