Smurfing

Smurfing is really going out of hand. Literally every game I have at least one opponent who is smurfing and sometimes supposedly from Saudi Arabia ( obviously not, because the ping would be way higher since I only play on european servers) with 10-250h ingame in diamond 3. How are legit accounts, with about 1k hours ingame, in diamond 3 supposed to play against all these guys creating new accounts who are champion with 2k hours and above? The amount of smurf accounts in the last few months is really sad. They're ruining the ranking system and fun for many players.

No. It's more general. Smurfing is when high skilled players create new accounts to play against players below their level. And that includes EVERY level below their own. Every game they win smurfing puts another player further down

Overall Rocket League playtime doesn't really mean anything. I once encountered a player who had nearly twice my hours but played like a bronze.

As he said, but more specifically, to be a smurf, you're purposely staying in the low ranks to bully inexperienced players. Otherwise, playing the game honorably, matchmaking will start placing you against tougher opponents. No harm, no foul.

Obviously I played against smurfs. You just have to look at their profile page to see rarely any friends, 1-3 installed games with less than 100h in rl playing in diamond 3 and champion. Obviously they play ranked and are high ranked pretty soon because they most likely have a lot of playtime with their main account. Often they don't hide their semi, pro or veteran status.

That's because matchmaking starts pairing you against tougher opponents. If you're playing the game honorably, to get pass the beginners, then no harm and no foul.

Do you even know how the ranking system works? These guys create new accounts and make other people, they normally wouldn't have matched up against, lose. They create these accounts to have easier opponents. And we in diamond 3 are easier opponents to them, than in champions 2 or whatever league they are actually in skillwise. It seriously can't be so hard to understand. They get ranked multiple times, depending how many accounts they're using - while players they play against get deranked. It only stops when they reach their original level in champions 2 or whatever.

They're not. The champion-level players rank up until they're playing against other champions.

And in the meantime they make others derank on their way up. While already being up with their main account.

I haven't really encountered a smurf in ages to be honest, besides when they did a hard reset, thats when i met some, but i never really reported them since it was a hard reset.

The ones i encounter are grouped teams where one of them is a High Platinum to a High Diamond and their team mate is a Bronze or Silver and that is made easy because of Psyonix and their innate stupidity when they made group MMRs average based instead of highest MMR based.

Overall, they preferred friends to play together screwing over other players instead of making their friends go up against far superior skilled players.

Its just.....wrong.

I know i am likely meant to be between Gold III and Platinum II, i have made peace with that, but winning and losing because i get put against players that just shouldn't be there in the first place is not a good feeling at all.

I have had majority of my matches have been either easy wins or just out-right impossible odds, think of it like this.

When i win these matches, its like i am a Champion and the other team are like Gold.....when it comes to skill level differences, yet i am Gold III and they are Gold III, but our skill levels are VASTLY different and not fair to them.

When i lose these matches, its like i am a plain Gold skilled player (which i am) and the other team are like Champions, yet they have the same rank as me...sometimes lower.

That alone is an indicator that it is messed up.

You're equating "hours played" with actual skill. Which is not the case, as anybody can tell you when they're disproving the myth that "Rocketeer" means "better than Semi-Pro". The only way skill can be measured is by actually playing the game. So, tough noogies, cry me a river, deal with it, blah blah. In order to put "smurfs" at their correct skill level, the game has to throw those players into the meat grinder with everybody else.

When they did the last soft reset with season 6, my 2s and 3s put me into Platinum II, which i promptly lost.

Its funny that all the rank and skill ratios are messed up, its all because of Psyonix making the group MMR into an average based thing instead of 'highest MMR' based, which it really should be.

I agree here, i have slightly over 1,000hrs in rocket league and i am still in between Gold III and Platinum II, but i gain or lose it 90% of the time because the matches i get put in, i shouldn't be in....its either i win cause they are far worse than me, yet are the same rank as me or they are vastly better than me and are the same rank.

Its just annoyingly weird.
