Mostly to let your teammate know that u don't have any boost so can't do certain clears and challenges. Means that u may need to adjust how u play for a while like not passing to teammate or going to challenge u otherwise would leave to your mate.

At least it helps me when my teammate tells me that he can't go to something because no boost.
