Air Dribbles off wall help

I have a question about Air dribbling off walls with the ball. Whenever I seem to hit my jump button while on a wall my car ends up not jumping at all and I just seem to hit the ball into the sky ahead of me, so I am unable to hit the ball or stay on track with it. I have searched multiple videos and have no clue what I am doing wrong maybe the angle I'm attacking it? If someone could help that would be great.
