The punch powerup is all about momentum, if the ball is travelling the same way/lateral to the way that you're punching you'll get a much stronger hit - I think it also takes into account your momentum so try and make sure you're supersonic upon usage if possible or at least flip into it.
You can demo anyone in Rumble at all times, even if they have strength boost, just hit them from the side or in the bootyhole
The magnet is more powerful the closer it is to your car (when using the magnet try and take speed match the ball for best results)
The boot also uses your momentum when it calculates how much power it'll send into that guys face so try and be supersonic (or at least flip into it) when using it. Another note for the boot is never to use it when you're above someone and they're on the ground or if they're on the wall and you are on the ground, this will result in a "no-budge booting"
I hope this all helps with the issues you're having - Happy Rumbling <3
Ice nearly always pops it off em for me... but I have run right into someone with a spiked ball several times in the recent past only to just bump them as they continue into our goal...
Some of these abilities though just need to be learned and refined by the players they're not necessarily broken it just takes patience and observation of the uh abilities meta game kinda like with the puck in Snow Day though that thing continues to just baffle me every other game the way its physics work...
yo that was actually SO informative thank you! I definitely didn't realize the immunity bit with the spikes that makes A LOT of sense now hahaha
You're most welcome my dude (: Rumble is one of my favourite game modes and although it's sometimes tilt-worthy, it should defo be fun for everyone
I'm sure there's plenty more little tricks and tips out there but these are just the ones that I've learned through hours of playing - hope to meet you on the field sometime <3

lets play some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rumble sometime!
Frozen and rolling ball is just a freeze being used on a plunger, but the ice effect remains. It's exactly like freezing a spiked ball.
The punch is also based on the direction your car is facing in relation to the ball. Have the rear of your car facing towards the ball is less powerful than having the front face it.
Magnet seems to work better in the air because it can now hover around you rather than just drag along on the ground, and because the magnet's force is stronger the closer it is, an aerial magnet touch is going to stick like glue from thereon in.
Boot is one of the most underrated power ups, and is one of the best counters to spikes. I've both forced and been forced to own goal with spikes because of a boot.
As for spikes being OP, yeah, they can be if nobody else has a power up. The only power up that doesn't stop spikes is the punch, as disruptor can be used to screw someone's ceiling aerial or wall aerial. Punch just slows then down a tiny fraction, if at all. Plunger can pull on the ball and player, forcing them to either stop completely or turn, grapple forces a hit, since the ball is dislodged when it is hit, and not the player, boot is great, tornado is obvious, same with teleport, freeze and spikes immunity interaction was already mentioned. Spikes is only good against really awful defenders.
I'm one such person who's awful at defense (against spikes). I'm plat 2 and have a gold 3 mate who is leagues better at me at stopping spikes WITHOUT power ups.
One thing I think people sometimes forget, too, is that power ups can be saved. I've held onto a plunger for 30 seconds once because I knew my opponents would over commit once they started to push. I scored with it because I kept the plunger instead of used it prematurely.
It takes some experience ( prediction ability ) and more than average in-air car control to block other player with spikes. I also recommend train shadow defense that switch your defending mentality from early commits to provoking attacker to do the first move and then react accordingly.
BTW. I think harpoon sometimes bugs - when ball goes towards you and you activate it. Instead of hit the ball and send it away into hit direction ( away from you ) your car goes with the ball without any impact on ball.
I've lost many goals being inside our goal and activate harpoon to counter the ball going toward our goal but when instead hitting the ball away I simply went with a ball into our goal like my car weight as much as feather and instead of change the ball momentum, the ball completly ignored the hit and literally changed my whole momentum.
No idea if there's logical explanation for such non sense from game mechanics perspective or that's just a bug that randomly happens and nobody bothers to fix it.
