Season Reward system needs to be reworked
Hello everyone, hello Psyonix,

I think the new season reward system is kinda flawed. Why is that you may ask? It's because it rewards time, not skill. As someone who is working more then 40 hours a week, I dont have so much time to play lots of games. This didnt matter to me before, because all I wanted was to get platinum or diamond rewards and since my skills are good enough, I can reach this quite fast without having to play like 50+ games, especially if you have the hidden elo behind your neck which makes it easy to start in a high rank when a new season starts.

But now this has completely changed...

First: You have to do 10 ranked matches before the season reward counter even STARTS to count your wins. That means you have to do at least 22 games in order to get the bronze rewards, at least if you win ALL your games.

Second: To get platinum rewards, I need to win 58 games. Given the fact that their will be loses, I will have to play at least like 70-100 games (depending on my skill and my random teammates I get).

Third: I can be a diamond player and be skilled as one, but still only get bronze rewards if I just cant afford the time. I loved Rocket League Ranked System before, because I didnt have to spent dozens of hours to get the rewards and it felt like it is even rewarding for people with less time. Now it help people who still go to school or dont have work and leaves out the people who work 40+ hours a week.

Here is my suggestion: The Season Reward should depend on skill, not on available time. So when you are doing your matches to get your rank, they also count for the season reward rank. And once you get ranked in, your season reward starts one tier lower then your actual tier. Example:

You do your 10 matches and get ranked Platinum 2. Since your season rewards starts one tier lower, that means you will start at season reward GOLD and since you are platinum 2, you also automatically start with 4 wins in that season reward. And with some more wins, I get my platinum reward level. This would be a good system, because those who start at bronze/silver will get bronze rewards and those who are higher can skip someone of the lower season reward tiers. Why should I play for bronze when I play like a platinum/diamond? Doesnt make much sense in my opinion and I dont know any other games with ranked who punishes good players.

Greetings

What you're suggesting OP is the old reward system. It was being abused like mad and was difficult to track boosters and boosted. I disliked it at first but I gave it time. So no, the new season reward system is fine for now.

This season reward system actually discourages boosting. Making it harder for boosters to boost low-ranked players.

Of course, the new problem of deranking. This system also allows Psyonix to track them much easier.

Yeah, it's irksome at first but the system doesn't know where you stand in the ranks.

All in all, it's fine along with the auto-ban chat too.

I'm suggesting the old reward system in combination with a punishment system, that punishes boosters. So if players, whos ranks differ alot, play ranked together, the higher tier player does not get any points and loses alot when the game is lost and the lower tier player only gets a very few points, so it will take forever to get to higher ranks. THIS would prevent boosting and wouldn't punish players who play fair.

It doesn't. A good player can still play with a bad player and get the wins for him. Also: How does it prevent boosting in any way? With enough games, the boosted player stillg ets to diamond/platinum and can get the wins with a stronger player. It just takes forever now.

Also, the new system is very exploitable. You can get your bronze-gold reward wins really easily, it just takes longer.

TrueSkill (yes, that's the ranking system) does that already. If you're a high ranking player, you don't get that much points from lower ranking players. However! If you lose as a high ranking player, you're going to lose a lot of points. Let's swap ranks, if a lower ranking player beats a high ranking player, that low rank player will gain a lot of points. But won't lose a little if that low ranking player lost. Then again, boosters can care less about the points anyways. Psyonix can catch boosters and boosted easier with this new system. It did well in season five.

That player needs to win 12 times while remaining in that rank to get the season rewards. If they're on a winning streak, TrueSkill will start placing them on higher level play. Therefore, it'll discourage boosting.

And here's the solution: This shouldn't happen if you TEAM UP with someone that is ranked much higher then you. The game could easily track this: "oh, this bronze level player has teamed up with a grand champ. Therefore he will receive nearly no points for winning". And the bigger the gap between the 2 players is, the higher the penality FOR BOTH players is. Another way would be, that you just can't play ranked with people who are 2 tiers lower then you (like you are grand champ and your friend is gold, you won't be able to play ranked together). Would be much better, since a low rank shouldn't play on high rank anyway.

Every heard about game bundles like humblebundle? Go through my library and you will see, that most of the games are games cheap af. Also: I gathered those games in a time where I had alot more freetime. The good ol times are over, not as much time anymore as in the past.

Sorry mate, you've played 37 hours the past 2 weeks. That should be MORE than enough to get your season rewards if you were a champion. Yes, this ranked method does have its flaws, (like the time constraints you mentioned but also more smurfs) but overall, this system makes ranked games really have a point. Besides just increasing your rank, it also keeps people more interested in ranked because they haven't got the season rewards that they would like to achieve.

Dude, we are not getting money for playing this game. And we are not doing it for any physical rewards. The game is supposed to be fun

So why do you care about your rank? Do you care about anyone else's rank? Of course not.

The rewards are mostly crappy and of short-term interest, so just chill out in Casual/Rumble.

I play with the Season 2 prospect boost since I have it, no one has it and it's white, what more can you ask for?

Obviously rewards like the banners and the wheels were not really of my taste but all the other rewards are worth grinding up the ranks imo.
