Are they ever going to make good bots?
Or do so few people play against them that it's not worth their time. I used to enjoy bot games until I became a better player. Now they just annoy the crap out of me.

I knew some helpful person would say that lol. I play ranked quite a bit, but sometimes I like to relax with bots.

For a game as focused on skill as this, good bots are difficult to make, so no.

3v1 unfair is not a challenge enough 4 u?

I don't why but the bots seem this season a little bit better (mostly timing wise when making goals). Sometimes they do better rotations than some players :p
My only problem with them is their decision making in certain situations (scoring in their own goals, bumping you, etc.). I think this has to do with the other players (and/or ball) being too fast for them to make a good 'decision' and also like melloh said, skill is dificult to put in code.
IF they could make the bots skillfull then the question would be: What skill level bot do we put with these players? Matchmaking in competitive can be sometimes unbalanced already so taking 'average skill level' of the players won't always be good enough (ofcourse nothing is perfect though)
And so: Won't they give an advantage to the team with the bot? This would cause more rage(quit) because the player will feel at an disadvantage and evading games with bots can eventually get annoying. Playing against a computer who can (maybe) do precise movements in opposite to you just feels...idk, like your gold and playing against champion.

I don't have any experience with coding AI so maybe it is possible to make the bots better and keep the game fun . We'll just have to see what psyonix does in the future

Sorry for the long answer tho :3

At a certain level keeping the ball on the air should be enough to win of 4 unfair bots as they can’t aerial. Aerials seem pretty hard to program I think, just like wallhits.

No, they are not updating the bots.

You have to understand that it is very complex to code AI in an online physics based environment.

Think of the code involved in making bots even do simple aerials to make saves, let alone shoot it down the arena to a team member.

They're bots to fill in missing human players. That's it.

Well, bots are consistantly bad, that is preferrable than inconsistance of player skill, like it is in ranked, i have faced players that are gold I and totally rock to the point of them not deserving the rank, yet gold 3s and even platinum 2s that just out right suck.....right now, its just too inconsistant for any rank below Diamond to mean anything.
Honestly the bots are much better recently than they used to be. If you give a low center they will put a decent shot on net more often than not and they aren't terrible at getting in the way of stuff on D.
They still need babysitting but there's only so much you can expect from AI in a game like this.
The bots in this game are 100% better at rotation, positioning and most any other fundamental skill than 90% of Gold and Platinum ranks. I'd lobby for bots in ranked on my team over the majority of the feculence I'm randomly assigned by matchmaking.

"bots" in this game are used as a Temporary player while the game waits for the slot to be filled by an actual player. ive noticed the bots get slightly worse the higher MMR that you have. as you are playing in more skilled games and should be able to cater for that missing player

Bots are only strong in Unfair difficulty, not still smart as they can still own goal in online matches, but we know Psyonix will never improve them as not enough coding knowledge.
