I Hit My Ceiling in Competitive
Not literally, just in rank. Once I got to Silver 1 and 2 opponents are more accurate and I start having trouble with reading the path the ball will take after being hit causing more mistakes and goals against me, then teammates will voice their disappointments which causes me to lose moral in myself. I've hit that ceiling where I feel like I don't fit in where I'm at, but at the same time I love competitive over casual play.

Anybody here overcome a block in your rank? What helped you get better? I know practice makes perfect, but was there anything specific that you experienced that boosted your confidence as an RL player?

You answered your own question basically...

"I know practice makes perfect" - And this is it, DONT do ranked, if you arent keeping up passed silver, as you will become a nuisence to your other teammats, who may be excelling passed you.

Goto standard, and play play play, learn those jumps, learn the paths, learn to rotate, learn to STAY away from teammate, (i cant stress enough, how many people ball chase, and constantly follow behind teammates, which makes it impossible to setup long pass/plays!)

Once you feel comfy, go back to ranked.

Dont just do ranked, for the sake of it, cause again, you are harming others leveling also in the process, do it when you know you can do the things you struggle with.

mute people at the start of the match. Learn how to position yourself better.
Learn and practice new skills (thinking of flying, as you are silver).

Get a teammate or somebody you know you can trust.

Why not play ranked. He/she has to practice the new skills somewhere...
Just don't go into ranked having learnt nothing. Go into ranked when you are trying to apply a new trick or positioning

Thanks for the replies. I do need to take a break from ranked and just dabble into the other game modes and work on my flying more. Finding someone I can trust makes sense, too.

Im sorry, but this is the worse advice ive ever heard, and quite frankly, now makes sense as to why i get teamed (in random) with people who clearly play, like they have never even tried standard.

"Go into ranked when you are trying to apply a new trick or positioning" - Are you serious?

Like serious?

You might aswell say (Hey man, ranked is nothing anyways, doesnt matter if you cant rotate, pass, ariel, jump, block, defend, read movements, wall ride, cieling hop, just go play rank, and have fun!)

RANKED = Competitive.

Which means the following

Compete

-strive to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others.
-be able to rival another or others.
-be as good as or better than others of a comparable nature.

The reason i would hope anyone, in any game, would goto competitive, is because they are now in a position to realize that they have surpassed the "basics & more" and now have the comfort level, to compete with others, who ALSO have surpassed higher levels, and if not, then EXPECT to hit a wall, and be beat by others who HAVE took the time to go learn.

Im not saying hes a complete noob, but if hes wall'd at silver, then ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hes in for a shock at platinum and beyond.

The only way he will ever learn, is NOT by playing ranked constantly, and deranking into oblivion, and constantly circling between bronze/silver/bronze/silver - that doesnt help him, and it becomes tedious, the only way hes ever going to surpass the problems hes facing, is by going into stadard, were people go to LEARN and train on the "shots/positions/reads/rotations" that they cannot do, and perfect them.

This is why ranked is stinking, failing and full of people who will continously pull others peoples ranks down with them, without even thinking or considering that OTHERS are suffering because they are made to carry people, is purely because people with that exact mindset, dont give a damn about ranked, and only the fact they took part in it.

competitive means, play to win, not play for fun.

Goto standard for fun, leave ranked for people who want to progress into something more, a title, number, fame, whatever there reason is, make sure its because it involves wanting to be the best, thats what competitions are for.

Good luck either way.

All those saying stay out of ranked is ridiculous. That is THE way to learn. Casual people dont play the same as in ranked. There will not be proper rotation, proper focus, and just mute the haters in the matches before hand. Will do you a world of good to stay in comp.

You learn by repetition in this game until you realize you have to adjust to get better. Only in comp.

I agree with this totally, ranbked is by far the best way to learn, with solo stan being best i bellieve. Having to adapt to your teammates and play with them and against the other team with everyone beign random the best way to improve every aspect. I would suggest also playing with friends consistently and practicing passing and rotation, because tthose skills will be used no matter what mode you play and if you can rotate wel you can make it to a much higher standard vs someone who is mechanically better buit cant rotate.

Ok, so I'll give you my trick that helped me whenever I hit a skill ceiling in this game... just swap to a different playlist. So like for example if you are Silver I in Duos, go over to Standard, Solo Standard and most importantly SOLO DUELS!!! Try to match your rank in those playlists with your 'skill ceiling'. It's a simple way to gain more experience without screwing up games of people You feel are better than you and without ditching the ranked playlist alltogether. Obviously always try to look for your own weak points and improve on them. Watching Pro players play is also helpfull as you gain better understanding of the game. Plus there are always tutorials on YouTube that will explain to you more advanced mechanics and most importantly the ins and outs of good rotation.

Sorry for the wall of text but thats preatty much my road from Prospect through Challenger and Star ranks from earlier seasons to Diamond in the newer ones. C:

EDIT: Aslo try to find a friend thats in your skill level and you feel comfortable playing with etc. I found my ranked partner in Solo Standard and we've been ranking up together since ages now, so dont loose hope if you dont find one instantly. Just be friendly try your best and if you meet someone you'd like to play with more often then ask him if you can add him etc.
Obviously not everyone will say yes but you never know :P

You are in for a long road of salt through Silver and Gold. The most important skill in those ranks is just to have yoru team mates back even when they don't want it or realize you are watching out for them. I keep hitting these skill cielings then breaking through. Could take a week or could take a month.

What helped me was a good dose of rage towards my team and not caring about my rank

Play with friends.
Play with friends that are more skilled than you.

I learn a lot. It takes time to get the muscle memory working but my game has been getting incrementally better.
