sometimes, i can't double jump during an aerial, why ?

i tried in the training room many different combos, but it seems to apear randomly, i don't know why.... i'm doing an aerial, and when i want to make the second jump to shot the ball, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.
Can you explain me why ?

1.5 sec limit. pretty much the time you got until you can't do the second jump.

Don't be like me though, most of the time when I attempt a double jump aerial I was flipping on the spot like a moron.

Interestingly, the delay doesn't exist if you don't use the first jump. For instance, if you use the ramp to get air in Neo-Tokyo you can wait as long as you want to use the double jump. Same applies if you get bumped or if you launch of the inside of the goal. Every once in a while you'll find yourself in these situations and it comes in handy.
