2button vs 1button air roll
Are there any advantages to using 2 button air roll vs 1 button?
Right now, I'm using LB to air roll and RB for right roll, but if 2 button truly does have a slight advantage, I wouldn't mind getting used to it now.
Are there moves 1 button air roll can do that 2 button can't or vise versa?
Is 1 button more accurate than 2 button air roll?

Wait, I can do a wave dash with powerslide on left air roll! I just gotta hold both left and right air roll at the same time when doing it

X - boost
Y - camera

I have two seperate buttons, L1 for Control, and R1 for air-roll right so I can do half-flips easier.
thats really a great suggestion. you cant do the half flips with the left/right air roll bound to one button. gonna try that out, thanks. not being able to do the half flip was the only down side i figured out in 500 playing hours so far though.

Wait, you can't half-flips with 1 button air-roll? I'm pretty sure you don't need air-roll to half-filp, please explain.

How are you so sure? You need to roll your car upright after you backward dodge for the halfflip

There are 2 ways to air roll, one done using left/right air roll and one without using it. The one using left/right air roll is very slightly slower but more consistant than the one that doesn't use any air rolls.

I think A-jump B- Boost and Y-powerslide X-ball cam. ( Boost and ball cam can be swaped) Landing with powerslide on can be very usefull and at times you want to rotate your car without air roll getting in the way and slide on your angle. But at that point you're really looking at Allstar play+. And really when we start to talk about the advantage of having air roll on seperate buttons we are talking about advanced play. It'll be a while before you can take advantage of them.
Wouldn't this make it harder to boost drift? how would i jump and boost at simultaneously

Your thump would hold down boost B and you just roll it over a little to jump on A-jump for instance. It's very easy. Boost power slide is the same just you rotate upwards. You end up working the buttons like it's a D-pad where you can easily press 2 at anytime. Double jump boost then ball cam off off is easy too.

Someone might have mentioned but im just skimming so i dont know. Having learned to use l/r air roll first, i agree with some of the things in this old thread :P.

You can usually tell if someone is using l/r air roll because their adjustments arent as smooth,
so they tend to "over roll" and have to roll slightly back the other way.

Also having your air roll the same as your drift can sometimes cause issues when trying to
recover from a poor landing or bump.

Ultimately both work well but if you are too far into the game it can be very hard to switch, i
tried to switch to 1b air roll at about 900 hours in and no matter what i did i just couldnt break
the muscle memory.

For the air roll on same button as drift, I've created a solution to it a while ago, so now I can wave dash while using the same buttom for doing my air rolls and drifts.
I'm pretty sure I posted my controls on steam and made a version for ps4 and xbox if you want to use it.

I know it's an old thread, I just wanna post this in case anyone comes across it, cause this thread was at the top of my browser when I searched air roll controls.

Pros of having air roll to 1 button:
Increased control/precision, where you don't overshoot the roll, which is what A L I A S first said. It's like playing a keyboard, where if you turn, it's all or nothing, not slow turning. Same goes for rolling in the air. The advantage of using L1/LB + joystick is you can twist more slowly if needed.
For some people, 1 air roll button is more natural, as there are fewer buttons to be clicked, and less movement for your hands.
Also frees up a button to use, which is always good.
One other pro to 1 single button, is that if you have 1 button for air roll and powerslide, wave dashes could become more natural because all you are doing is clicking two buttons (jump and powerslide/boost). It also prepares you to land, because you are already drifting as you are rolling, which can give you quicker recovery times or prevent you from having to spam buttons really fast.

Cons of having air roll to 1 button:
You cannot turn and twist at the same time, therefore you cannot do a tornado flick. That means fewer types of movements you could possibly be doing, which could limit your potential.
I personally had an easier time with 2 buttons for wall to air dribbling. I was able to jump off the wall and face the direction of the ball in an upright position a TINY bit faster than I could with 1 air roll button. Not sure if I was doing something wrong... However, it's really minor limitation, as a lot of the pros and world champions use 1 button for air roll, but it's still something to think about
I just really hate not being able to do the tornado flick or twist, and it's also a really cool celebration.
Wave dashes could be slightly harder because more buttons to click (nothing ppl can't learn though).

I am probably mostly writing this to myself, so I can choose myself, but I figured I might as well share it on this thread since it was such a good one. Hope it helps, lemme know if I missed something, cause I still haven't made up my mind.

my aerial game skyrocketed when I switched to 1 button roll, I use left shoulder to roll left and left stick to roll right, having left stick as the roll button makes half fliping the easiest thing in the world
