Ranked too high? Not having fun :(

I work a lot and like to unwind at night playing rocket league. For about a year I played only single player, but just started playing online a few weeks ago. Playing with actual people is much more satisfying, but for the past 2 weeks or so I've been matched with far superior players, to the point where it's not fun for me or any of my teammates. I've played about 50+ matches in a row where the skill gap is enormous. I'm too busy and have no interest in grinding many hours to nail advanced freestyle aerials every 20 seconds.

I have no idea how this game assesses skill levels and ranks. Is there anything I can do to help the game match me with my (noob) kind?

You need to play more... But you don't have time for that... Then i guess you need to either work less or don't play multiplayer. And like Matt said, you are not even ranked.

your unranked score is higher than mine. and according to rocket league trackr its in the top 34%. probably why

On top of probably having a decent unranked MMR, unranked matchmaking is pretty loose. If they can't find a match, it just grabs people and slaps them into a server.

Thanks everyone, I've very new to playing online but now I learned a lot about the mechanics of matchmaking. That tracker website is helpful too. I mostly like to play 2v2 but I guess each mode is rated differently? Maybe I'll avoid 2v2 until I'm better...

Try playing RANKED. You will start off with a trash rank and get matched with other trash players. Unranked and Ranked have different MMR counts IIRC.

Jk, once you start leveling up you don't play for fun anymore from that point it's all about skill.
Either get better (specially with some friends) or just play now and then.

That 400 to 600 MMR range is wierd as hell. I play a lot of 1's and check the ranks of people I play. In casual in that 400 to 600 range I'll face anything between a challenger 1 to a Superstar. What it is higher level players want to practice something like air dribbles etc. so they will lose a lot of games till they get to the point where they can practice. That sub 500 MMR range is where you will find easy enough opponents where you can keep the ball from them and do your practice shots.

I feal for ya man. You just want to play people at your skill level and can't.

No matter what level you are when you play against players with close skill levels it's fun. Win or lose.
