If you were there when the first one was released, the most compelling feature of the game was the fact that you were in a shopping mall using regular objects, every day appliances and merchandise to defend yourself. You were, for the most part, not using weapons.
That was the fun of it.. try on the ordinary stuff to kill zombies. Some of them were even useless but they included anyway.
The combo weapons quickly took away the charm of the game. The baseball bet with nails became the default weapon on your inventory because they made that available right outside the safe house...
Then there was non sense to make an actually lightsaber with jewels and a flashlight.
Bringing a western developer to make Dead Rising was a mistake. They never really grasp what made the original so special and bit by bit they ran the franchise into the ground with more and more ridiculous over the top nonsense.
Capcom got it right on the first place and had this perfect balance between horror and comedy.
Let's just forget DR ever got sequels. Dead Rising 1 is the only 1. I hope Capcom wipe the state clean and develop a new canon with Frank West from this point on.
*yawns* No Dead Rising 2 or Off the Record means your statement is boring. Hardcore Dead Rising 1 fans wanting to kill off the rest of the franchise bleh
Giving Dead Rising to Western developers after Dead Rising 1 was a massive ♥♥♥♥-up and I'm glad that almost twenty years later we're finally getting something new with Japanese devs.
