"Brandish Guns" option issue
On the annoyingly common occurrence where the party is stopped by bandits there is supposed to be an option called "Brandish Guns" in which all the characters scare off the bandits by brandishing their guns if they have if each one of them has a gun equipped. I got stopped with a custom character holding a pistol, El Satan holding a cowboy rifle and Giga Guy (a megaman clone with only an arm cannon and no inventory slots). The option does not show up.

My only 3 theories are:
-Giga Guy's cannon doesn't count as a "Gun" in this event
-El Satan can't shoot
-the guns had no ammo (accept the arm cannon)

None of which I think should interfere with this option since its implied that the guns are just used for intimidation and never need to be fired

You need a total of 12 Shooting spread across the party to get Brandish Guns to show. It probably doesn't matter in this particular case (or most cases), but could potentially throw off calcs: Martial Artist gives a -10 penalty to Max Shooting.

For the record, do they still need guns equipped?

I don't think so, but I can't be sure. Calmshot does check if you have a gun, but looks at your entire inventory including trunk. The code for the Brandish Guns option just asks for your "Shooting Total", which is just the sum of the Shooting score for your entire party.

And a correction to my earlier statement, you need a total of 13 Shooting or higher. I forgot about the > sign...

I also looked in the code to see what actually counts as a gun for checks. Besides the generic pistols/shotguns/rifles, the following are also explicitly listed:

  • Billy's guns
  • Ded9 (modded too)
  • Pirate Cannon and Captain's Cannon
  • Ray Gun, Mazer, and Solar Mazer
  • Flamethrower
  • GIGA GUSTER
