How to change your game's music
So, I've come to find out you can change your games music. You do this by replacing the game's original music files in the /data/music section of your directory. There are some rules however since it's not really optimized for the sole purpose of custom music, you can just kind of do it.

First of all you can't use music that's too long, so using a version of a short song that extends it for more than 20 minutes is out of the question. The song will play in slow mo ingame, I'm not sure why but using long songs have never really worked out for me. Don't fret the songs will loop with a small delay however.

Second the songs must be renamed to the ones you want to replace, so let's say I want to replace "Lootin'.mp3" with "intheend.mp3", I would need to rename intheend to Lootin', exactly letter for letter all case sensitive. You would drag the renamed folder to /data/music and replace the original file.

Since you're replacing certain music files I'm sure you're wondering when and how often your music will play, so I've made a quick vague little guide on each of the songs.

Canada, Ho! - This plays when you reach the gates of Canada

Death Road to Canada - This plays in the menu when you fiddle with your music volume and it plays mostly during seiges.

Without a Reason - This also rarely plays during seiges

Frankenstein Goes to Jamaica - This plays almost everytime you lose your car

Green on Green - This mostly plays when your just travelling by carbut it is possible for it to play during Looting sessions.

Half-a-Brain Boogie, Lootin', Rigor Mortis Rag, and Rotten Shotgun - All of these mostly play when you're in actual normal Looting gameplay it is very possible for them to play when traveling too.

Stop and Smell the Flesh and Zombonita Beach - These are both half and half. They play as frequently when looting as they do when travelling

Theme of the Broken Car - This one plays rarely when your car breaks down and I've heard it during a seige maybe once

I Think He's Dead - I've never heard this one play in any of my playthroughs, if someone could tell me that would be great.

Again this is based on my rough knowlage of the game's music, if the Dev or hell anyone could shed some actual light on this that would be great.

Here are some links to the replacers I've made.

You have no idea how deep you can go. If you mess with music.df you can make it play whatever music you like. You could add 48 car themes. You could add a new category that does not play when in battle but plays in the car. Sky's the limit.

Do you have any exact tips on how to edit this file without messing anything up? Like what do MUSIC_ROAD" "MUSIC_HARD" "MUSIC_EASY" etc. mean?

MUSIC_DEATHROAD: That is simply the title theme. It sometimes plays during sieges unless you change the music-siege procedure, found later in the file

MUSIC_HARD#: Half a brain boogie, rotten shotgun, and without a reason. These play during the sieges and particularly vicious scavenging sprees.

MUSIC_ROAD#: Plays during driving. Sometimes swapped with easy music unless you change the music-road procedure

MUSIC_EASY#: Plays during normal events (and also on the road, unless you change a procedure)

You can add different songs or even categories, but it requires some tinkering with the statements (music-road, music-siege, music-road-choice, music-easy, music-title...)

Look into forth documentation and if-then-else statements. "50 %chance if" roughly translates into "has a one half chance to do this". Nesting these statements is a great way to add extra songs.

Yeah, it requires a bit of coding to really open up.https://thebeez.home.xs4all.nl/ForthPrimer/Forth_primer.html#toc-Chapter-1 is a good resource, but you may want to look up some programming fundamentals to ease you in.

Also, MAKE A BACKUP.

Also, and I forgot to mention, .df files can easily be opened in notepad. But since you already know the names of the variables, you probably know this. This one's just for the people who want to edit but are stuck at that step.

You can do this in just about any game not just DR2C, back when Elder Scrolls Oblivion came out I had the combat music switched with the opening theme from Baccano. Punchy wild gangster era trumpets would sound everytime I was located by a hostile creature. Which was pretty awesome for a sneaking rogue character to determine when the gig is up.

Still I have to say I love the music that's already in the game. Sure it be nice if there was some extra variety added down the line but I find I can play the current ones for a few hours without getting sick of them which is pretty much the most important factor with game music.

I Think He's Dead plays when Alvis leaves the group due to low morale.
