What are your favorite weapons?
I asked the community this question on the 23rd of August, 2019 at 8:46AM at whatever the hell timezone that the Philippines has. So in case of a tactical update, this topic won't still be updated unless I have the kinetic boredom to expend~
And yes I am aware (at least I think I am) that there has been a topic like this before but that was an eternity ago, sooooo~

So I quickly googled "dr2c weapons" and found that there are 5 categories of weapons - BUT - I split the Melee Weapons and the Ranged Weapons each into two because obviously most would pick the most overpowered weapon in the game. Also, I've decided to separate Summons as well: they're normally classified as Throwables but they summon something to the fight instead of directly damaging the zeds, so yeah you got my point I know you did.

The 8 categories are as follows:

Light Melee (Little to No Cleave, with Sad-ish Damage)
Heavy Melee (Slow Swinging, High Cleave, or just Glorious Damage)
Special (Usually Definitely acquired from a Random Event)
Light Ranged (The things that go Pew Pew or Daka Daka Daka)
Heavy Ranged (The things that go Skrrrrra, VRRRRRRRRRRR, or Kab blammo[with echoes])
Throwables (Self-Explanatory)
Summons (From the Throwables section, 'Summons' summon Summons)
Motorized (Requires precious Fuel to use [effectively] and no it isn't the Flamethrower because these things don't have range)

Here are my top picks:

Light Melee
I like the spine as a light melee weapon, it's fairly common considering a lot of people apparently die on the Death Road, and you can get them by chance by punching a skeleton apart or throwing it into the zeds (sorry, dead person). I don't know about you guys but the Spines in my game make fairly quick work of single zeds. Bonus points if it has the w/ Skull Accessory on it~

I think having a spine is good

Heavy Melee
As for the heavy melee weapon, the Log for me is next to the Grim Reaper's Scythe, the Scythe is pretty much RNG since I believe you can only acquire this from a Graveyard ABL event which makes it very hard to come by; the Logs you can pretty much find in any Cabin-In-the-Woods ABL event, and it cleaves so wide and can send a few zombies into outer space if the swing doesn't destroy them.

Special
The Giant Club used by the Caveman is a really great weapon, I only used it once so far but - I mean - When you think about it, it's just a refined, weaponized, and more efficient... Errr... Log.

Common Ranged
I love the UZI, it's just an automatic pistol - Submachinegun, whatever - And you get to bring a lot of ammunition into the fight as long as you have them, and Bullets aren't that hard to come by anyway. It's a great Discount Minigun~

Heavy Ranged
The Flamethrower most definitely. It's expensive but I almost always only use it on the finale anyway.
That thing made me see Glorious 4-6fps~

Throwables
I don't... Really like to use Throwables because most of the time I either find explosives or molotovs and on the next siege, my squad gets mysteriously wiped out because I'm a jackass I guess.

Summons
Eggs. Hands-down - having a chicken army (of two or three) in a desperate attempt to survive a Siege is legendary.
Also the chickens look cute extremely cute~
I MEAN LOOK AT THEM

Motorized
I guess the Chainsaw is the most common one, I haven't really had the chance to try out the other motorized weapons (the wiki said there're only 7) because RNG, but it's fun to bulldoze through Sieges with a Chainsaw on-hand.

Anyway, what are your favorites? :6face:

If i'm remembering correctly, you can get a scythe from farmers by having high charm, strength, or fitness and helping them out. That has to be my favorite heavy melee.

My go-to weapons are a heavy sword for my manually controlled strength character, a machete or golden knife for my support characters, and top-tier guns.

I don't usually bother with buying throwables unless I have a lot of money.

I don't really bother with summons.

Heavy melee for the guy I control (at least claymore is a standard), light melee (aluminium bat or machete) for the ones following. Same for guns, heavy for me, light for others unless I've got a huge stock of ammo, since AI is not exactly careful with its ammo management.

Motorized is a case of emergency for siege.
I like Logs and Parking Meters. They aren't even terrible on weak characters, the first swing before the cooldown even can one shot zombies.

Also melee weapons are divided into light, medium, and heavy... not light and heavy.

The femor actually some of the weaker light melee weapons the AI likes.

The strong Katana is easily one of the best weapons for light and medium (think 3 strength) characters, but is hard to come by. The Okatu Katana actually outperforms it in DPS since aside from breaking it is the same just allowing weaklings to swing as fast as medium characters. It does break, but I typically have characters bring a breakable melee, an unbreakable melee, and either a gun or another breakable. The Okatu Katana therefore actually outpreferoms items like golf clubs, cricket bats, and meat cleavers for the breakable melee catagory.

Nail boards are surpsingly effective if you learn to time your swings so that you hit 3 zombies as once instead of wasting a swing per zombie.

The Dolt is a must have for using bullets effectivly.

Molotovs and Grenades are great for sieges. Grenades have the bonus of being useful for gauntlets.

Brass Knuckles ALL THE WAY, makes my punches even PUNCHIER!(the main character i use has the brawler punch and high phys stats which make him a beast in combat(slow +1 hp higher strength, i think higher stamina? idk.... if you didn't know the brawling style melee perk lets you kill most zombies in 1 or 2 hits turns out the brass knuckles augment your unarmed attack resulting in a even more potent punch with a arc radius (instead of the forward punch you get with brawling) that knocks over almost always, kills on the first hit quite a bit more frequently and has quite a bit of knockback on zombies, in my opinion its comparable to the 'rare' weapons with this setup, it also dosn't break.... if you don't have brawling its ok.... (side note: absolutely does not work on the martial arts perk))

With all the weapons currently in the game, I wonder if there's room for more...

My favorite weapons are the golden weapons for NPCs. The bots on this game don't cleave well with slashing weapons AT ALL. But with long reach weapons like spears they tend to cleave really well and they are really good at using stamina efficient weapons like single target knives. So Golden Knife or Golden Spear for NPCs. As for the human player (myself) I like to use slashing weapons with long reach and cleave. So large weapons such as the claymore and megaknight blade. Early game I try to get a hold of a log by going to cabins and such. Ultimate Log is my absolute BaE weapon! smashing 6 zombies and per swing, you can't beat that level of cleavage. Even if they don't die it takes a zombie about 15 seconds to stand back up after being hit, ontop of being batted out of existance. As for guns? I'm not too picky as long as each bot has one different ammo type being used, i just use whatever gun we have surplus ammo for. I let the bots do the shooting while I just caveman cleave my way through zombies to save ammo.

Grim Reaper. It's lighter than the Zweihander and it can cleave more enemies. I don't like reducing a character's vitality to one tho...

Tactical Polearm

Haven't played since early 2017 or maybe late 2016. My favorite is probably the cleaver but idk how much it has changed since then. Probably never changed but yeah it's one of the best weapons

It's definitely nowhere near one of the best weapons.

It is one of the best COMMON weapons if that's what you mean.

I have a thing for low end but effective merchant weapons. My favourites in that department are the gladius and specially the tactical spear. Imo the tactical spear is easily the most serviceable weapon in game: Decent damage, long range for melee, unbreakable, cheap and reduced stamina bonus. Just have to be lucky and find the Polearm Pal in the run.

Best weapon overall (none-gas/ none-electrical):

My most favored Melee Weapon overall is the Golden Knife. Sounds weird, but that thing is a real life saver if you can get one. It has an incredible dmg output (which makes it pretty useful on any char) and only takes half the stamina of a regular weapon. But therefore you need some luck on a Dark Mansion looting session.

But the Tactical Spear is pretty good, too.

Heavy Weapon:

I guess, that would be the Mega Knightsword maybe, but I'm not that much into those heavy weapons. Even the Mega Knightsword with max. Strength doesn't guarantee a 1-hit-kill. I mean, it is strong and you can hit multiple targets and the knockback is cool, but there are a lot of situations where you waste too much stamina with it or your team kills the zombies before you hit them and THAT... wastes stamina. So, it's situational.

Maybe Grim Reaper takes lesser stamina if you've max Strength? Idk, lately the droprate of the Grim Reaper dropped drastically for me. Haven't seen one for the last 5-10 playthroughs? At least?

Ranged Weapon:

Well, most of the time you rather have the problem that you either have no rations to buy them or you've too much and they're either not available or you are already full of well-enough stuff.

Mazer Pistol:

The Mazer Pistol isn't rechargeable, but it comes with 200 charges and is pretty cheap considering it's price. It's strong and has one of the highest penetration rates of all ranged weapons. The only drawback is that it's rarely available (only on a "bunker"-trader camp) and on that situation you need 12 food for it. But: you pay 12 food for the weapon and the ammo - think about it! That's pretty cool.

Minigun:

Maybe the strongest ranged weapon overall, but unless you've collected 400 rifle ammo you won't make full use of it. Most of the time you can be happy if you find 150-200 rifle ammo per playthrough - that's what I mean.
Only had it once on that hire-able "Rambo"-like event-char.

Uzi:

Overall, I'm pretty much happy if I find an Uzi along with a Pistol for one of my chars for the final siege. Either it has a pretty good firing rate a high enough ammo capacity - and you find way more bullets (=pistol-ammo) in general anyways.

Gas- and Electric Weapons:

Except for the Blower and E-Blower I like all of those.

Also:

On one playthrough I was really lucky and got 1 chainsaw, 2 e-chainsaws (later fused into 1 with 160 charges - maybe, cause I kept it in my inventory for 1 looting-event and didn't waste any charges) and 2 e-whackers (which didn't fuse, cause I used on one some charges?).

However, on the last map on my way the 2nd e-whacker had still some charges left. So I gave it to the "HORSE"-event char and......... HE USED IT!!! So, the Weapon-Limitation doesn't count for those (should've tested, whether it counts for gas-weapons, too>>')... and the e-whacker charges last REALLY long! (*love it*)

Most interesting

The replies make me wonder just how many weapons I haven't used yet...

I hope RNG allows it in later runs~
