Anybody else think that (Rare character) is too strong?
Giga Guy.

Infinite ammo, costs no stamina to attack, half charged attack kills and sometimes pierces through zombies and most furniture. Even with his 1 weapon slot, he's still what I would consider the strongest character in the game because he could single handedly take on the last 2 sieges.

I mean, there's already the in-game reference, "I hope you got an OP character!"

I don't know why you would be worried about something OP in DR2C. It's 100% PvE. If you think it makes things too easy, simply don't recruit him.

Do you have an issue with El Satan as well? He could probably also handle the last 2 sieges on his own. The game is meant to be fun over challenging.

He's really strong, especially as the player character.

I could nerf him if he becomes a big problem, pretty easy to tone him down. Firing speed could be reduced, the piercing could be reduced. He'd still be really good just due to the "no stamina" thing.

I think Giga Guy's damage needs to be reduced is all. A half charged shot can break most furniture or kill and pierce through zombies. Maybe if it was a fully charged shot it would make sense but partially charged shots do insane damage.

El Satan isn't even on the same league as Giga Guy. You need to be in melee range to grab them and throwing zombies doesn't guarantee a kill. Getting in melee range to grab a zombie is also much more difficult when there's a horde after you compared to shooting a half charged shot and wiping out 3 zombies.

See, I think Giga Guy isn't even in the same league as El Satan. You're looking purely at each character's special ability. El Satan can not only keep zombies infinitely at bay with his ability, but he starts out with great strength and fitness and can hold 3 things. He doesn't even need to be empty-handed to pick up and throw zombies. Last run I had him, he could effectively wield a MegaKnight Blade (only run I've gotten it), as well as throw zombies for the lulz. I think I also had him holding a chainsaw and an AK47 during the final sieges as well, both of which he can use.

El Satan is my fave, and Giga Guy doesn't compare with his simple blaster. :P

The thing is you have to find or buy those weapons you've listed and those weapons will automatically win you the last 2 sieges if you have the ammo for them on any character. Giga Guy requires only 10 food to recruit and he pretty much wins you the game compared to buying an AK47 which costs 25 food and a lot of ammo or a chainsaw and having to manage your fuel more carefully.

I don't believe El Satan even close to as good as Giga Guy even if he can carry 3 weapons or throw zombies. Infinite ammo, ranged attack and killing anywhere between 1-3 zombies in a single half charged blast is far better than managing any weapon and having to worry about managing ammo or fuel or just getting bitten by zombies all together.

Besides that, any normal character can equip powerful weapons but Giga Guy gets a special ultra powerful weapon tailored just for him. Imagine picking Giga Guy up at the last trading camp with very little supplies and terrible weapons. That's like buying an instant win for 10 food. I can't imagine any other character that can single handedly win the last 2 sieges with their base equips and stats.

I don't particularly see the need to nerf Giga Guy based on the fact that he's strong; some weapons are stronger than others, and some rare characters should be stronger than others. But if he's only 10 food to recruit, that's pretty cheap for what is essentially a very powerful weapon; perhaps he could be rebalanced by making him cost more to recruit - maybe something like 40-60 food? (I hope there's never an achievement for beating the game with him if that happens, haha)

Disclaimer: I've never actually used or even seen Giga Guy before

nah bump him up to 20 food and leave him alone, 40-60 food is way too much.

I guess I'll agree to disagree, because it really isn't hard to get access to those weapons, nor is it difficult to get a lot of ammo and fuel. Also, you don't really need access to those particular weapons, those were just the example of what I had. There are plenty of other lesser weapons that are still great and siege-winning.

However, I can see how the recruit cost is beneficial if you aren't good at managing supplies.

I think this would be a perfectly fair fix.

Sounds good to me, I mean, if he's on the same tier of awesome as the chainsaw

20 food it is

Currently changed it to 20 food, this will show up in the next testing branch. Though I could also do 15 food, but with a nerf to him.

I'm fine with Giga Guy cost 20 food to recruit. I'll still recruit him if I have that amount because he's just that strong but at least I wont always be able to afford him when I see him.

He didn't do too well as my AI partner, maybe I should have switched tdo him. -_-

Generally don't trust the AI to do anything well. They just can't keep up with skilled players, and will generally make life difficult for you. No offense, Kepa and Paul, as the AI simulates real people perfectly.
Talithmara Aug 18, 2017 @ 11:43pm
Yeah, I regularly keep needing to take guns away from my AI allies since I see them doing things like try to shoot around a corner but just keep wasting ammo on the corner. The AI isn't to be trusted with guns - unless you just have a TON of ammo and want EVERYONE to have SOME kind of gun when fighting in the open - they generally do well in the open, just not in close quarters.

Case in point: I just beat my first Deadlier Road run, and I mainly had two main characters for most of the run (Had some berserkers for a bit but both died in a bandit attack when I refused to give up all food and weapons with over 40 food and very good weapons - A zweihander, an autoshotgun, and these were the big two but I also had a Dolt/Hunting Rifle collection going.) I had intended to spread the good weapons out, but as fate would have it, I ended up using the Zweihander and Autoshotgun on my controlled character (Which makes sense for the sword at least; I'm the guy out of my friends who's studied HEMA) simply since I like using the heavy cleaving weapons, and my AI were wasting my shotgun shells.

(I had over 200 Pistol and rifle Ammo at the end, though, so I gave everyone dolts and hunting rifles, which worked beautifully, but I simply could not trust the AI with the autoshotgun.)

He's still a good AI buddy, it's just that he's way better in the hands of the player because you can mash the hell out of the fire button or exploit the charge shots intelligently.
