Happy Holidays, Scrumlords! We at Ginger Bean Interactive you're all doing well. This year has been a doozy for the games industry. Thousands of layoffs, dozens of cancelled projects, and the official death of E3 (PBUI). Luckily, GBI is a pioneer of workplace efficiency and budgetary min-maxing, and has only had one paid employee over the last 12 months.

That's me!


My name is Joe and I'm the only person working for GBI. Worry not though, for even though there is only one of me, we've made a lot of progress on the upcoming rework and are excited to share some details about the upcoming content. But before we get into it, thank you all so much for giving this dumb lil game a chance. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a happy new year to each and every one of you.


As stated in previous updates, Scrumlords is in the process of having it's "campaigns" reworked. Here are some of the biggest changes coming in the near future.


Speaking of doozies in the gaming community, Unity Engine. After the infamous changes to Unity's terms of service, we immediately began researching alternative engines for making SCRUMLORDS. We finally settled on Godot, a free and open source game engine which fit our studio's requirements and was reasonably easy to learn.

Now, switching to a new engine is not as simple as copying and pasting project files from one place to another. It feels much more like rebuilding the game from the ground up. Please trust me when I say that for SCRUMLORDS, this is a good thing.

The original Unity build was an absolute nightmare. This was my first real game project, and the game's source code was a hard-coded, spaghettified, unscaleable, unupdatable pile of doo doo (I lied on my resume about my CS degree). Remaking the game has let me undo some of the mistakes made in the first build, and should make it easier to us to add new content in future updates.


The campaign map is the space that players will enter between each "level." The map will feature branching paths as well as multiple different level types such as combat, shops, random events, and more.

In trying to remove players from static boring menus, the player will physically inhabit the map and interact with the various "nodes" along its paths. Peep this WIP Campaign Map scene:


The "Hub World" where players purchase upgrades and choose their equipment is receiving a similar treatment. Here's some more WIP GIF action:


Players will be able to earn items throughout their various campaigns. The items only last for the duration of a single run, but the buffs and debuffs they provide can be game-changing! Here's a look at the items we've got (so far):

I'm a uni student, so news has been sparse over the last semester, but with the holiday break, I've got lots of time to dive in and feel like I am making good progress. Hello Scrumlords! The dev team has collectively arisen from their Starfield-induced comas and are eagerly diving headfirst back into work on SCRUMLORDS. We've gotten lots done and have lots more planned!

We've received some great feedback from the community and have been working to address some of the biggest issues in the upcoming 1.1 Quality of Life update.

• Buddy health and armor has been increased to make them feel less WIMPY
  
• Players can now use either of the shift keys to sprint
  
• Divided options menu into audio settings and graphics settings
  
• Added an option for fullscreen or windowed mode
  
• Added option to change screen resolution
  
• Added option to mute all sounds

• Options for changing keybinds
  
• Steam lists install size at 4ishGB. (This one has us befuddled. The final install size of SCRUMLORDS is 1.2ishGB)
  
• H3 mines in Tau Ceti system have clogged up production chain and prevented flow of copper and iron ore to manufacturing hub

Da Big Announcement: TOTAL CAMPAIGN REVAMP

Currently the gameplay loop in SCRUMLORDS is:

• Enter Level
  
• Fight bad guys
  
• Enter slightly different level
  
• Fight more bad guys
  
• Repeat til dead

This loop, while functional, is LAME and STUPID and MUST BE FIXED.

One of the hallmarks of games in the Roguelike genre is the importance of player choice. In our Campaign revamp, we plan to introduce a new campaign map system similar to those found in Slay the Spire and FTL. This revamp is just out of the planning phase, so we don't have any new images to share just yet, the art team is hard at work bringing this new vision for SCRUMLORDS to life. Here is a list of planned features for the CAMPAIGN REVAMP:

• Campaign map with branching paths
  
• Various different level types (i.e. battles, shops, events, boss rooms, etc.)
  
• New Items which can be picked up during a run and provide various buffs/debuffs
  
• New Boss Enemies and campaign 'win' rewards

With the scope of this revamp, the team expects to have this update live sometime this Winter. (And if they don't, there will be severe consequences)

Howdy, Scrumlords! The day of reckoning release is nearly upon us, and our team has been working pounding out the final details and quashing a fine few bugs along the way.

• Numerous VFX Optimizations
  
• Enemy spawn optimizations
  
• Damage number spawn optimizations
  
• Improved transitions between levels
  
• Improved transitions from main menu to campaign and vice versa
  
• Archers no longer get swept up by the enemy mob and pushed endlessly towards the player
  
• Added new graphics for the "Door" to next level with cute lil' flag waving guys
  
• Adjusted stat balancing during tutorial
  
• Fixed: UI issues in tutorial
  
• Fixed: Special enemies spawning at incorrect times
  
• Fixed: Error where game over screen would display sum of enemies defeated across multiple campaigns
  
• Devs responsible for the above errors have been identified, chided, and thrown into the oubliette

Hello, Scrumlords! V 0.9 is out with a host of new features and improvements. Some highlights include:

• Added three new enemy types
  
• Added one new weapon
  
• New Character VFX for player and enemies
  
• Optimized enemy spawn behavior

• Added a Low Graphics setting to main menu
  
• Improved Main Menu visuals
  
• Hotfixed all a great number of bugs created by adding aforementioned features

Hello Everyone! We're almost through the second week of August and are creeping ever-closer to SCRUMLORDS' August 29 release date. We hardly contain our excitement at the studio, and we can't wait celebrate launch day! In the mean time, the dev team has been hard at working crafting new systems and adding new gameplay elements that we are finally allowed to share with you!
In the Middle Ages, a lord was the master of all that resided in his (or her) realm. Everything within that realm, from the trees in the forests to the grain in the fields, all the way down to the peasants who worked those fields, was the property of that lord. In SCRUMLORDS, we have added new varieties of peasants (i.e. Enemies) to the game which add challenge, variety, and force you to develop new tactics!

Archers will approach you until you come in range, then unleash a devastating volley which can decimate buddies and lords alike. If you get too close, these slippery lil' guys will retreat until they reach a safe range. Dodge their projectiles and don't let too many form up behind their melee bros or you'll end up in bullet-heck.

Big boys may seem slow and lumbering, but once they wind up, they unleash a devastating charge at speeds one might describe as 'very fast.' Avoid their charge and stack on damage during their cooldown, and you should make quick work of your tanky boys.
