If this is a case and they turned demake mod into full remake closer to original games with best parts of aod ported and worst parts removed, like if it was still made by old core design team for ps1, than this is best thing that could and should have been done with AoD.
Original game is a mess that can't be repaired and can only serve as prototype and assets storage and some idea source for classic engine TR game made from ground.
The devs are wizards so I fully believe they'll add shadows and effects before launch.
