Disabling piece falling speed in settings does not work

I disabled the piece falling speed, but they still fall on their own. Am I misinterpreting this setting? I'd like to disable the fall speed. It's annoying having to constantly hot-swap with the reserve to reset the fall position.

So it turns out the setting does work, but it does not apply to the currently active piece, which confused me.
