Best terrains per faction?
Some I've noted:

The North likes rivers
Duchy like plains
Republic like plains and forest

Yup, that tracks.

Not the "best" per se but the Republic CAN benefit even from wastelands with the appropriate upgrades. It's nice for the lategame.

Faith and religious isn't always the best choice, if you're playing tribe ;) Considered the what to move your way strategy, if you have a fortune teller ready.
