Cannot launch rust on MacOS Sonoma Beta
Anyone been able to get rust running on Sonoma? It just won't launch on the native steam anymore.

I got the same issue trying to run Rust game from the native Steam app.
From crash report I can see, is that a SIGSEGV - which is segmentation fault.
FacePunch are probably messing with the pointers somewhere or it's a difference in pointer marshaling from C/C++ to Swift. As far Mac OS Sonoma is just a beta right know, I don't know when exactly Rust will be available again, and how they will adapt to changes. I also hope that performance will be improved with transition to Mac OS Sonoma with DirectX 12 support which was announced, and so far working with other games without a problem (except issue with garbage collection which leads to stack overflow and game freeze at some point and you need to restart it)

if you are stuck and can't play rust, use Geforce Now, if it runs. As they kept evolving RUst past few years, my old mid-2015 Macbook Pro ended up in the mid-teens fps. Used Geforce Now until i got new M1 ...

I have a new M2 Pro macbook. It runs rust at 60fps easily, fans barely ramp up. It's not an issue of performance it's an issue that the game just doesn't run on Sonoma

Same issue. I raised it in a support ticket.

Hoping Game Mode sorts out the FPS drops. On an M1 Pro.

Hopefully in future updates they fix this issue.

I did some debugging and the game, technically, runs fine. You can launch it manually from the game folder in the Finder. It's the EAC (anti-cheat) that does not work, so no server will let you play. It tries to load a text-rendering library that Apple deprecated 5+ years ago.

Epic, the owner of EAC, has already updated the engine. Fortnite eg. uses it too and it works. It's that Rust uses an ancient version of EAC.

Sending a support ticket to Facepunch does help, they do read and respond to it.

Ps. Rust does ship with native Apple Silicone packaged. But it's not complete and won't fully launch. You must force it to run emulated with "Rosetta". This only matters when launching manually, as Steam/EAC force Rust under Rosetta for now.

As far as I am aware, Apple has not shipped with OpenGL in a long time. They switched everything over to Metal. Metal did get a few new features in Sonoma.

Yeah they have an opengl in quotes renderer but it runs through metal like you said but it’s received a bunch of so far undocumented changes the community is poking through.

I have MacBook Pro 16, 2021 with installed MacOS Sonoma.
Game is not working.

BUT! It's working on Rust Staging branch. So it will come in next update, there are few visual bugs.

You can fix it yourself by grabbing the Rust.app from staging and copying it into current rust folder.

Ps. you're all welcome! I dug trough Epic's Easy-Anticheat documentation to find the updated launcher. Posted the fix on the Rust discord and the next day it was live on staging. :steamfacepalm:

I've tried that but you get EAC: Client Integrity Violation.

Never mind got it working! thanks.

Just rename your original rust app to "rust1" then copy over the Staging EAC file. Run the game, remove the new rust.app and rename your original file to its original name and servers load normally

Thank you! It's work for me as well! Just need delete Rust.app from staging when you start it, and rename old one to original name.
