Keyboard stops reacting randomly

Hey, just bought the game to play with a friend, but sadly I can't.

Theres this complete random bug that all of a sudden my keys stop working while the mouse IS still working.

For example:

I press shift to sprint, stop pressing it but still sprinting.
I press space to jump, after the jump all keys are locked.
I press W to move forward, stop pressing it but wont stop moving forward.

Thought it could be a Keyboard error, so I tried two different keyboards.

My Microsoft X6 USB Keyboard and an older PS/2 Keyboard.

I also reinstalled the game ( uninstalling the game + deleting the Rust folder from Steamapps ) and I validated the game files. All gamefiles were fine.

After all this, the error still occurs. The only way to get rid of it is to type kill in console but even then the error occurs again after sometimes just 3 seconds and sometimes 1 minute. Sometimes I can move fine for 1min or longer, sometimes the error occurs again after 3 seconds.

As long as its like this, the game is absolutely unplayable for me.

Hopefully someone can help me. Sadly I can only find one thread about this problem but that was Comodofirewall related, I don't have anything like that.


EDIT:// Seems like other people have this bug too, one guy opened a thread and said it worked fine yesterday but not today, my friend told me there was an update today, maybe that causes it?

That's what my game dose. I just got it yesterday and it worked perfectly fine, but I try playing now and it don't work

Same problem here. Just started playing the game after the update. Only thing I've been able to guess is perhaps the frequency in which it happens is related to the population level of the server. As when the server was new and had just been wiped I played for ~2 hours w/o the keyboard bug, now that it's almost full my keyboard gets stuck within 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Once it was stuck by the time the game loaded!

The game worked after the update for the most part. It locked twice within a 3-hour period. I came back a few hours later and now I can't go 15 seconds without the keyboard locking. Hitting F1 "helped" the first time after some button smashing and clicking, but it feels like the game randomly decided to recognize the key presses instead. I can second that the issue comes back soon after passing (about five seconds for me). At this time, the game is effectively unplayable.

Update: It seems that hitting any 100 button for any weapon item in the Item list after pressing F1 works everytime (at least for me), but it only gives me a few seconds to move each time. I hope that helps.

I'm having this issue as well. I've tried many things to get it to stop but it's just killing me. I understand this comes with early access so i just hope there's a fix soon.

Press F1 to open up the console and type client.maxunack 10 close the console and continue to enjoy movement again...

same thing here, I have tried every kind of solution then I found a temporary fix, just going on console (F1) and press any button and press enter, everything will return to work.. please fix this bug! When you are in pvp it's really frustrating!!!

happened to me just now, I am so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ salt as a group of 3 with bows noticed me in the middle of a field just after i tried to make a base after running around for 2 hours and then this happened so all i could do was scream "plz no" at them as they raped my dead corpse, but anyway this has happened before while i was safe inside a base and is the most gamebreaking thing for a pvp based game. Also the only known fix is literally to just restart the game which ends in the same result of being killed unless you are lucky or inside.

Found this in a reddit post:
"If you have Samsung Magician running on your PC, it appears to have started interfering with this key combination. You can exit it by finding it's icon in the bottom-right "^" hidden icon section, right-clicking, and hitting Exit. Fixed this issue for me."

^Worked for me in March of 2025. If you have a Samsung hard drive then this probably pops up on the bottom right of your screen when you boot your computer.

same i am on rust as admin and cant do anything when it happens typing into chat or commands some keys fail ,,,i cant understand how these companies haven't sorted this bug out steam get it sorted plz
