RUST / Radeon settings incompatible
I just bought a R9 380 and while playing RUST I am at random times the game will freeze, I will be taken to the desktop and back into the game. The game has frozen and has to be force closed. The gpu software has to be closed and reopened.
The game has never frozen while in the menu and doesn't always freeze at the same time. I can sometimes get about 30 min into the game before it freezes. It only happens in RUST and while playing using my GPU. If I was to play using my intergrated graphics, the game works but its laggy.

Only Modern GPU. My Radeon 7870 has been running the new Rust for years now without 1 problem whatsoever.

Everyone with an R9 380-390 seems to have a problem indeed.

I got a R9 380 Nitro, no crashes here.
Did you try capping framerates for rust? I capped em to 70.
Overheating? Use HWMonitor (Nice tool for checking out temps)

EDIT: A couple days ago I upgraded to driver version 16.3.2, maybe you didn't?

Press F1 in game then type fps.limit 65 or what ever you want to cap the fps and this will take some of the load off the GPU and keep temps down a bit. Maybe this helps.

I'm running an AMD GPU and never had any issues, other than having to run on low spec! Today however, AMD Gaming Evolved App did a background update and installed Raptr + MS VS Redist's 2008 / 2010. Straight after this however, my system became unresponsive (complete hangs) whenever I tried to launch Rust, via Steam or the AMD App (for optimizations). My solution was to uninstal Raptr + the uneeded VS Redist's it installed (as I have 2012 already) and all working fine again. Perhaps if your issue is AMD GPU related, download the latest drivers for your GPU / Chipset and skip the AMD Gaming App / Raptr! Good luck. - My laptop is an old Acer 5560 (AMD A series A6-3420M / 1.5 GHz / AMD A60M / AMD Radeon HD 6520G / Win 7 Ult x64).

The ONLY way I can play rust for any period of time is if I turn the graphics settings down low and IMO thats BS cause I bought this GPU so I could enjoy playing games that looked good. None of the games I have played so far cause a crash except for RUST. I have a ticket open with facepunchstudios.com but it has been two days since I have heard from the last, if I get this to work I will post the solution here.

Please do. I have a post up on reddit also.

Yup definetly a problem with the 380 series, read a few more topics of people having the exact same problem. My GPU is Sapphire Nitro R9 380X. Got this problem on both Windows 7 & 10

Same problem here, i have a 2048 MBATI AMD Radeon R9 380 Series (ASUStek Computer Inc) and i run Rust perfectly, but randomly the game freezes, i often hear a sound that tells me "Drivers has been disconnected" or something like that (not always) and then the screen goes black and the game stays frozen. Only one time i could hear the movements while the screen was still black. This didn't happen with any game for the moment. But i have to say: one time it happened while i wasn't playing rust, but much probably i had closed that game few minutes before. I don't think it's a problem of overheating because i set the fan to maximum before opening the game, the PC is new and after i reset the PC (because the screen don't show anything) the temperature is around 40°

It's definitely not an overheating problem. I'd recommend you not to set the fan speed higher than 70%.
