Rust
Tameable Wolves and Horses[Suggestion]
So I have heard that the devs plan to implament horse riding, which sounds awesome and I heavily look forward to this! So I figured it wouldn't hurt to add some suggestions for ideas I have to help and feel free to add in anything you think would be good to!

I will start off with Horses since they seem the most likely to happen sometime soonish.

Taming
- So my idea for taming would use apples. First you have to find a wild horse. Then to keep from spooking it, you have to put all weapons away and hold in your hand an apple. Very slowly approach the horse, don't run because running will spook it. Once it shows interest and starts walking towards you, stop and let it come to you. When it gets close enough you can left click it with the apple and that will feed it. From there it will start to follow you, so long as you have apples in your hand. It will take from 5-10 apples to tame a single horse(with a chance of it either succeding or failing.) When the horse is tamed it will allow you to name it. While taming, if you are attacked, or the horse is attacked, it will get spooked and run away. But those are the risks!

At this point in order to bring the horse home you will have to have a saddle, which you can only make after finding the blue print for it. So it's best to get this before hand, or else you can't take the horse home easily.

When riding the horse you will move faster, and have the ability to sprint with it, and run as fast as the wild horses can. You can use melee weapons while on the horse, but only some ranged weapons. You can only have one hand available for use while riding, so using a bow and arrow wouldn't make much sense. So only one handed ranged weapons(aka smaller ones) would be usable. That or the option of you can't use any ranged weapons.

To counter this all horses can hold up to 2 people. The second person who is riding, can use any of their weapons while the driver controls the horse. This would require the use of team work to better coordinate horse back attacks.

If you take your horse out foraging, so long as the saddle is on it the horse will stay where you leave it. However if while dismounted, the horse gets hurt it will get spooked and run off. So be sure that your horse is safe or you are keeping a close eye on it! Wolves are the most likely to attack the horse.

As far as care goes, you have to feed your horse naturally. For this I have two options.

1. The horse will eat vegetables, aka corn, pumpkins, and apples that already exist in game.
2. A new option, that certain bushes will be 'Grass gathering' bushes. You have to gather grass and turn it into hay bales and the horse wil eat from that. It takes 100 grass to equal 1 hay bale. A single Hay Bale can fill a horses hunger completely, and we can have their hunger drop at the same value as ours.

To feed a horse you either hold the food in your hand and feed them directly through left clicking, or you feed them through the hay bales. To do this the horse will need to have it's saddle removed, so it will wander the area(make sure it's fenced in so you don't lose your horse!) while wandering, when it get's hungry it will seek out the hay bales and nibble on them to fill it's hunger.

For water there can be water troughs that either fill up with rain, or you fill them yourself and it drinks from them when thirsty.

This isn't meant to be easy, but not so difficult it isn't worth bothering with.

Next up are 'Dogs'.

So my idea is to have the wolves be tameable. The way this would work is that you first need to find the blue print for, and craft a Dog Collar. Then with meat in hand, you go out and find a wolf!

The wolf will begin to attack you like normal, and to start the taming you must divert it's attention. To do this you hold the meat in your hand and throw it. This will catch the wolf's attention and it will run over and eat the meat. Now you have it's curiosity. The wolf will approach you, cautiously but not attacking you so long as you have more meat in hand. Don't switch to a weapon or it will go back into attack mode.

From this point you feed it the meat, like you did with the horse, and after a random chance of 5-10 pieces of meat the wolf will be tamed. This will allow you to name the wolf. It will follow you by default at this point, and attack anything that hurts you, or you attack. In order to have more control over the wolf you need to put the collar on it.

Once the collar is on you will be able to hold E on the wolf and have the option to have it 'Follow you, Wander, or stay put.' When on follow the wolf will attack what you attack, and anything that hurts you. When on wander or stay it will keep to itself, and only attack if it is attacked first.

To feed your wolf, you will need to collect meat. You will then need to craft a 'Dog Bowl' and put the meat in there. When the wolf is hungry it will wander to the bowl and eat. If it's on stay, the bowl has to be within a few feet of the wolf for it to eat on it's own. You can also feed it by hand. For water you will have to craft a 'Water Bowl' and fill it with water yourself.

I think having a wolf companion would be amazing, and yes there are risks to taking your wolf out but that is one you will have to accept if you wish to keep your canine companion around.

It' spossible to maybe have a 'guarding' option where if it's on stay, it will attack anyone but you(or people registered as 'friend' on the wolf) that gets too close. So it could be added security while you are away from home.

Having a way to possible add breeding into the mix could be fun as well, but I am not sure yet of the best way to add that in. Either way you have to keep in mind how much food and water you are able to provide your horse or wolf before you go getting too many. If they run out the wolves might be prone to trying to eat your horses, or even you if you arne't caring for them.

If you have any suggestions to these ideas, feel free to post them! And if you like these ideas, then express them in the board to let the dev's know! I think this game has a lot of potential, and it could really stand out form some of the other survival games with the addition of furry friends!

Those are great ideas you put alot of thought into it
Just to add to wolf you could would have to wear a wolf headdress to tame, once its tamed it is stored in the wolf hat making it that others can take your wolf be it friends or enemies who kill you. But if you were killed they would defend the corspe if u are still wearing it.

But to honest the ai right now is ♥♥♥♥ so i dont see it happening, the only way i could see it working is the wolf hat has the ability to spawn wolves close to the master and meat would be fed into the hat to keep them alive or tamed or use meat to spawn the wolves like ammunition.

wearing the hat to get close to it isn't a bad idea, but not sure it should be linked to them liking you XD I mean the wolf will still only be as strong as a wolf so they would likely die if they fight for you. But could be a fun addition. Though maybe limit it to you can only have a set number tamed at a given time.
No no i mentioned having the wolf hat linked to the wolves would be best cause u can manage them with the hat and have it as a weapon, i didn't mean the meat keeps spawning wolves i just ment it summons the ones you tamed. It would be way to overpowered if a player could spawn as many as desired, only the ones that were tamed are bound by the hat and summoned for one who uses it.
might over complicate things
How? Its easy management that gets around the buggy and shoddy ai.
1+, love to see that in game
