Rust
what can I do if I am terrible at pvp?
I'm not talking about crouching or controlled burst, im talkin about an absolute anxiety outburst that throws all training out the window. Should i continue playing (as in, are there any specific servers that are perfect for non pvp players)? Im 250 hours in and will get beat by guys with 50 hours and less, i dont get hitmarkers, i confuse friendlies for enemies, and im usually the sole reason(or leading factor) groups im with get wiped while out raiding. Are there modded servers out there that are friendly to newcomers? Every server ive joined so far in the last 2 months that said newcomers welcome(or any variety of that) has been filled with toxic individuals(2000 hours scoping nakeds from a tower), and 12 year old boys yelling the n word. Should i stop searching or are there game types im just not seeing?

1º) First and more important: Try battle royale servers. You will become better faster, because on Vanilla it's a long time to get a gun.

2º) There are modded servers, you get guns faster and can improve your skills.

3º) There are PVE servers.

4º) The game isn't easy, so sometimes it's really hard to kill enemies.

i already clocked in 100 hours of my 250 playing combat tag servers. i did not become better on any measurable scale, I have a good amount of time with most of the weapons besides one of the hand guns and the m249. I'm looking for suggestions on if and how a person that litteraly cannot do pvp can play this game and enjoy it.

I'm not looking for advice i have been demolished countless times by players that clocked in over 2500 hours 1v1, and have gotten mountains of advice, its all useless to me. For some unknown reason, I cannot hit a single target. Couldnt at the start, cant still. I'm a mixed mutt, i play console and pc, I've never experienced this type of aweful game play ever. I can play CSGO and do solid 2.0 KD's all day, same with any of the CODs, battlefields, and some korean FPS's. Im wondering, since i can't better myself in that aspect of the game, are there any other aspects/mods/servers that make the game still playable for me.

I am not a very good shooter, I would say. While playing CSGO works okay for me. I think hitting someone with a gun in Rust depends on a few things. You have to have the right gun, you need to know if it has more or less recoil to aim right, maybe you have to aim higher to hit a target, not aim at the target directly. Some guns do have a lower range than others. A moving target is even harder to hit, maybe you have to aim at a point in front of the target to hit it, because the bullet needs some time to travel there. All that could be a problem.
What I would do is build some of these targets or just some walls in different distances and try to hit them properly with all different kind of guns. When you get more confident you could try to hunt animals, first by maybe building a watchtower and try to shoot them from there, after that works fine try to shoot them while running around. You have to train it, but in my opinion it will get better after a while. I have become a better hitter just by trying.
If all that does not work and you are still not able to hit a target but want to play rust, try PVE. You have everything the game has to give but gunfights. If you like that, go for it.

thanks for the advice LT, Sadly i have constructed watchtowers, and targets doing exactly what you say, ive killed countless moving animals at a minimum of 200 meters away. I like the weapons in rust, but when in a firefight, none of that training kicks in. I lose my barings usually shooting at my own buds. I am typically the first and most likely the only person in any group i ever have been in to die every single fight. Im sad that i spent this money and time to find out im simply not compatable with the game. I have done some PVE servers and i will continue my search for one that I actually like.

What is also very important during gunfights: keep up your health. Use syringes as soon as possible, because one good set hit could be your death. So heal up, even if you just lost 20-30 health points. That makes a big difference!

To answer your original question, there are servers that have limited PvP or no-PvP for people who want to focus on other aspects, like building, survival and role-play. There are also noob friendly servers and modded servers that make certain things easier/better.

Like you, I am quite terrible at combat in this game and don't enjoy it. I have no interest in getting better. The official Rust servers are unplayable for me and the majority of the servers I've joined were way too toxic to be tolerable for even a brief period of time, let alone enjoyable to play on longterm.

I recommend looking for a mature server with active admins that enforce the server rules. It can be hard to find a good Rust server, but they do exist. And finding the right server can be the difference between being able to play Rust and throwing your computer against the wall in frustration.

Try going on the server Saltopia Combat Bots, and try going on the server Combat tags. I suggest saltopia first because you're fighting bots, but each should get you used to the idea of fighting people and using different strategies. You should go play on a 10x server, and then go down to a 5x such as Pixie Rust (my favorite). Vanilla takes far to long to get anywhere in my opinion, and once you do get stuff you often lose it all if you're not in a 5 man group even if you're an amazing player.

I am still on the look out for a completely PVPless server. I did find one but it wipes biweekly and if im playing to create id rather my projects last a month. Other than that i did dedicate over a quarter of all my in game time to combat tag servers, joined both random large battle areanas, and also 1v1's with a friend, and even one time i had a guy with 2.5k hours try to help for a couple hours. I am also looking for large clans that are more social and less "KOS everything you see" but no one wants a guy with a negative 3 on a scale of 1-10 for pvp.

There is always the new Wild West RP that's come up, not a ton of PVP. And a growing pop

no im looking for suggestions. im using it in the correct way

Build, farm, make traps, place alot of traps.
If thouse does not work...well you gotta quit rust.
But you can always train on BattleRoyale or Battlefield Servers, they got people and free weapons.

Or do RP but that kinda sucks..
