Rust

random account hacks ARE a thing people
not directly a rust topic, but still happens here so its a valid topic
people try and say steam cant be hacked, or people are cheating because they were banned... (and some may be cheating themselves, yes. but account theft happens)
newsflash, there are 23 recorded ways to intercept a steam auth token, 8 ways to spoof it and get access, then there's emails getting compromised and access granted to the connected steam. it happens, its posable, and those thinking otherwise need to pick up a book on cyber security for single celled organisms...

i get sick of seeing people saying "you were cheating, get over it" or "accounts cant be stolen" as much as im tired of seeing the ban appeal posts, since nothing can or will be done about bans from steam discussions.

100% this. People who cheat and claim they were hacked honestly expect us to believe someone went to the trouble of hacking into their account just to cheat in Rust and get banned.

Yes for sure accounts do get hacked. The ones that have hundreds or thousands of pounds worth of skins ect.

people dont hack them to play rust directly, no. the auth keys are sold or put on public sheets for anyone to grab. some people just have too much time and no morals, so they hack accounts for fun, sometimes for a bit of cash too. this is a fact the internet as a whole deals with.

again, im not condoning hacking. but the anger and hate is misdirected at victims of account hacks more than not. this leaves the actual cheaters free to continue with stolen accounts

as for accounts getting stolen for skins... those are the primary targets, yes. but i was hacked. and i refuse to do skin trading. hell, i dont even bother with the cards on steam, let alone trading. hackers dont need to have a reason to hack. they infact lack a reason NOT to. its a game for them to steal accounts. the valuble ones get sold, the nonvalued ones are dumped on the public chart

I think the thing is mate. When it comes to people coming onto the Rust forum claiming they have been hacked almost every single time you can check their friends list and almost always they have multiple friends with game and VAC bans. Or their accounts have free games and Rust as the only game that costs money to buy. Aka throw away accounts used to hack.

It's a pretty safe bet to say almost every single person who claims to be innocent on these forums are guilty of cheating.

Again I do want to say I'm not denying account hacking happens but in all the years I've had steam and known people in all those years none of them have been hacked. Yet if you were to believe the people on this forum you would think 1-3 of us is going to get hacked and used to cheat in Rust.

My account is over 6 years old or so and I got hacked over the weekend. No idea how it happened but I work all the time and dont get on here much. Ive even gone months or years without playing. I had an issue with not being able to change the phone number associated with my account for years and just not having the time to deal with it let it slide and eventually forgot about it. Whatever way they got my account didnt send the email to me to verify the login. My sons account was hacked awhile back as well and couldnt get it back because of the phone number as well. But my email was linked to his account so I would randomly see his skins getting sold in emails. But to the credit of Steam and their group I was able to get the issues resolved with both accounts today. They reset all the info and it allowed us to get access to them. Facepunch wont revert the EAC Ban because of 0 tolerance policy that hit me from who gained access to my account over the weekend. But live and learn. My account wasnt secure to the best of its ability and I may have logged in through a browser that wasnt secure enough that allowed someone to gain access. Im no computer wiz here so I wont try to figure out how it happened. Only thing I suggest to people is yes your account of many years can be hacked and they will do it for petty stuff such as skins to be sold for pennies. The items sold out of my sons didnt even add up to 2 dollars and they played on my account for 288 minutes. And whatever they are doing can link into an Epic Games account as well, because in 3 minutes time they changed the email, changed the phone number, and totally stopped us from getting it back at all. Im not gonna cry about the ban or even bug anyone over it. We come to the forums because some of us dont know the way to get the answers needed and at one time they used to be helpful and not so toxic. And some of us work 40 plus hours a week and are tired at the end of the day and just dont have time to deal with little things like a video game supplier. All I can say is if you think your account is secure, double check just to make sure and then check your other stuff. Im gonna eat the ban on Rust, but it did put a boot in the rear to go through all my online stuff and double check logins, backups, and passwords just to be certain. Anyway hope you all have a good one, good luck and take care.

You didn't get hacked. You got hijacked. Stop projecting false information.

You started playing on 15 Dec 24. You have two more sessions on 15th and 17th Jan 25. You were banned on 17th Jan. You managed to kill 5 scientists before even breaking 10 barrels or building a base, which is impressive but slightly odd. Apart from that all timings and achievements are what I would expect from a new player, there is no evidence account has been used by a cheater or experienced player.

Whatever you were doing was picked up quickly. I don't think asking people to inspect your account will help. You don't have many games and most are free, unfortunately for you that is exactly how the average cheater alt account appears.

It is possible you were banned for using a program you thought was OK. A lot of people have been banned for using 'Reshade' recently to help them see better at night. Change your password, make sure nobody in your house in messing with your system or adding apps, contact Steam if you are losing money.

I love when people can't freakin read. They don't even bother reading ANY of the posts. They just complain and whine like children.

Stop getting hijacked. Pretty simple.

Really OP rust is just repeating the steam TOS and what valve does for their games.

If your a high profile streamer with a hundred thousand viewers, you dont have to worry. You can get hacked, you can have your items stolen, and valve will go get it back for them.

They dont do that for us average plebs though, its just to bad you lose try better next time.

Your discussion is prolly more suited for the steam discussion forum. But valve dont care, they arent going to do anything they arent forced or want to do.

And man, i dont expect the average person to have great reading comprehension. But canadian lawyers and doctors proably have the poorest reading comprehension I have ever seen.

Dealing with my work injury was crazy. One lawyer who couldnt get the details of my case right, a health and safety director for alberta telling me that I tried to get medical help 1 year after I was poisoned, another lawyer thinking I had already been compensated.

Canadians are something else.

Even when talking to the workers safety advisory board they kept giving me someone else address and phone number when asking if that was my current information, they did this three times lmao.

LMAO what is this drivel? Valve has nothing to do with Rust.

VikingDork. Hacked vs Highjacked. To some of its the same thing. Not gonna throw any hate your way. Im from an era long since past when the term hacked is in reference to anyone gaining access in any way. I can see your point if I think about it. Projecting false information was not the intention. Simply trying to explain what happened to us over the weekend, the steps involved that I was able to take, and the outcome of what we were able to get done. Anyway hope you have a good day.

if it was simple, then it wouldnt be a problem. the big problem is people like you who think its easy to avoid getting hacked these days. with people able to spoof phone numbers, intercept emails, and steal auth keys from anywhere in the world and bypass the best anti hack methods avalable to the public... nothing is saft. even less so when you have hackers with too much time
