Well you can't compare a game to another game you've never heard of. It's only logical that Rust is compared to Minecraft. They play almost exactly the same bare in mind a few graphical and art style differences.

If someone was to ask me "Is Rust like Minecraft?" The simple and straight answer is; Yes.

I'd say no because rust is a lot more agressive.
Define "agressive."

if I may step in

according to your logic, every single game in the world that involves building your house take their loot, pve and pvp are like minecraft

so I guess COD could count as being similar with minecraft because you get to pick up their ammo after you kill the foe
Well first off. CoD is lobby based and not a sandboxed game. Second you do not gather raw resources in CoD. You do not craft in CoD. CoD is not a persisent online world. I caould go on. Use common sense.

I have yet to hear a complelling argument that Rust is unlike Minecraft.

hm... I don't think you quite got what I meant to say

you kill other people (pvp)
you get pick up "loots" ater you kill your enemy (guns and ammos)
in survival you have to farm for "resources" (guns and ammos)
you fight AI in storymode (pve)

first off deadstrech. minecraft wasnt inherintly a survival game. ITs just a mode that was added late in the dev cycle. At its core minecraft was always a build/ creative game. It did not start off as a survival game. Do you even recall the great upset people had when they added the hunger/eat feature?

rust however is a hommage to dayz. provided you had read anything about the game. The game was built on survival, combat and building.

If it was an homage to Day Z why are the two drastically different games?

Okay. I may have been wrong. Still that isn't disproving that Rust is unlike Minecraft in any way.

[Edit]
First question's answer. "We love DayZ and we wanted to make a game like it. So we did. We quickly realized that we couldn't create an explorable world as well done as DayZ so we came up with the idea of having the player create the world. This was the seed that spawned Rust. We really loved the idea of players starting with nothing, and having no goals but to exist in the world."

Yep sounds just like Minecraft. You can't creat any world in Day Z.

besides all the place older items and the fact you cannot terraform and the building restrictions. not to mention the crafting is not postional based like it is in minecraft. the crafting is more inline with Modern MMOs than minecraft. even down to the nodes. In minecraft materials are all around you and always retain the block shape. the resources on minecraft are unlimited as is the map generation. Theres many biomes in mc. rust is one island and pretty much the same all over.

its ok to be wrong.

Ahh good point. Still Minecraft is one of the most popular games. Both Rust and MC share similar gameplay elements. It's obvious the two will be compared. Just like many 2d platformers are compared to Mario and/or Sonic games.

it's dayz without snipers and with some basic craft instruments, where you canot destroy with one click your own house to extend, etc

p.s.
and with people who build their buildings on spots where advanced stuff is spawned. Idea with spawned blueprints and so on is terrible, it unbalances the game too much, the guy who finds pistol blueprint makes like a time jump for 2 thousand years in future

Every time somebody compares anything totally unrelevant to minecraft, I tear a clump of my hair out.

So you are saying the gameplay aspects of Rust and Minecraft are not similar?

By that logic Skyrim is like Minecraft too, because the only thing I CAN'T do there is build my own base. Simply sharing similar ideas or sharing some basic generel features does not make them similar.
