Rust Map - Location Names?
http://playrustwiki.com/images/f/ff/Newbie_Navigation_1.1.jpg

^ So I was checking out the Rust Wiki site and saw their maps of the game.

I've got two questions:

#1 - Which areas of the map are the least populated or safest/best for new players?

#2 - Are these location names official or just named by the map designer.... or are these just locations players have commonly named themselves?

I lied:

#3 - Is this the entire map or just the most popular location of the map?

There is also this map which uses different names:

So I dunno...

But can one go even more north or east than what's shown?

if you need zombies civ and rad areas are best, if you need resources, resource areas are best. the names were just make up by someome on that map.

I suggest using https://rustmap.net as a navigational guide, it works much better.

Areas where there are buildings = radiated and have zombies. There's also resources around them.

Sweet map....

Yeah I know the basics of the rad towns and other radioactive places.... I've cleared out a few so far..... but I haven't really explored much of the land yet with the exception of the southern area.

I was just curious if most players spawn in the southern area or is it randomly all over the map and if so, which areas are better for new players to head to to avoid raiders and such.

I've got a pretty sweet place right now, but on a low populated server. I imagine if I went to a heavily populated server, my location wouldn't be such a great idea, so I'm trying to think ahead.

In your linked map above, I'm in the Ecko Valley..... seems to be close to an area I see a lot of YouTube videos being recorded and I want to eventually get away from everybody and be a bit more secluded.

Anything really north or north-east aren't going to have zombies or players, except the hardcore players who hate being raided. The problem with this base location is that you have to travel a lot longer to get supplies and resources.

Yeah, figured.... sucky.... maybe tonight I'll venture out that way and see what it's like.

.... And why are the eastern mountains called "Hacker Mountain?"

Because hackers can get there easier than regular players due to being so far away, thus setup base there?

I have no idea, perhaps wander your eyes NorthWest? There's a certain mountain that seems fitting for a man's base if you know what I mean.

Yes, there more than what the map shows, but those are wastelands, without any resources nor buildings (possibly things will be added there).

There is no best spot for new players. Either not close to multiple resources (Resource spawn / animals / village to raid) or close to resources but competition. Both are bad.

Far from resources will make you advance slowly, at least 50% slower, so you'll never be the strongest. You might conquer your spot, but there will be stronger opponents.

So my advice would be to keep settling close to resources until you succeed and advance. Make 5 sheds and fill them up with resources. Very advanced players will likely not bother trying to raid noob houses. (but put metal door to all so other noobs don't just chop down ur door). And then when all 5 are filled with resources start building a big house WITH defences (something many people forget). Once that's done, keep expanding ur defence more and more. It will become harder and harder to raid your place.

My metal house has:
- Main house of metal 4 x 3 dimension and 3 high, working on 4th.
- 3 wooden guard tower (2 complete) 10 high with double door to enter.
- Wooden spikes all around my house (working on expanding it to multiple layers everywhere, not good enough currently). Hard to defend spots already have multiple layers. Easy to defend spots currently only have 1 sadly.
- Metal entrance that's only way in, 4 metal doors / walls long with sides covered in multilayer spikes (if they blow out sidewall thinking they're in). So it would require a lot of C4 to go in.
- Metal entrance is 3 high with shooting platform and unfinished metal guard tower.

^ This was my house 2 days ago.... I've added three more floors to it, completed a ring of normal spike walls and added another ring of large spike walls around those.

To get in, there's a metal door, which leads to another metal door.... to another door that leads back outside where you have to walk around to the real metal door as there's a second metal door leading to just one basic room with no items.

The open area you walk through to get to the real door has more spike walls and an old shed blocking access to this open area.

Then when you get into the real entrance door, there's stairs that lead to the second floor blocked by another metal door which also has a drop down floor from the 3rd floor to the second overlooking the 2nd floor door so I can shoot people in the back from a difficult visibility spot. Once in the 2nd floor door, there's a second metal door to go through before you're really inside.

The 2nd floor did have items but not anymore and is mostly just for cooking, smelting and crafting. More stairs lead to the 3rd floor with yet another metal door and so on all the way up to the top.

I keep moving all my stuff higher and higher up.

The interesting thing is that because I built my house in around trees, I have a branch going through the wall that the leaves cover the corner of the room where my sleeping bag is and where I log off so I'm not as easy to find.

I'm not sure it is possible, but I plan to put some spike walls inside my house at certain points to bottleneck intruders and just make the whole invasion unpleasant.

I'm sure it's still not enough, but it's not bad for my very first building.

And if somehow raiders breach every floor, I haven't been able to drop them and I'm almost dead, I'll jump off the building between the spike walls so they can't get my carried loot. :P

That sounds like you're setting up a cruel castle. Set up your base with a 6x6 foundation. From there make each floor have a different layout with a stairwell in a different location, each room separated by doors.

Then put your loot on the top and just laugh as they burn through 70+ C4 trying to find your precious loot.

Yeah each floor is laid out differently with stairways bouncing back and forth from one side to the other, etc..... My place is only 2x4 though.... but that's ok, that just means I have more resources to go higher.

Very true! That could actually be more beneficial as well!
