How do I allocate more RAM to this game?
Is there a command prompt I can enter into the game's launch options or console to allocate more RAM? My computer is currently allocating 4GB out of 12GB.

OK, DO YOU WANNA ALLOCATE MORE RAM? HERE: on steam go to your library and right click on the game and go to properties. Now on the first tab select "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS" Now, type "-Xmx4G" to allocate 4gb of ram. if you want to allocate more, then change the "4" to any amount of gb of ram you want to allocate to the game. So let's say you want 6. in "set launch options" type in "-Xmx6G". Now if you would like to be specific (5.5gb) then instead of typing G type M for megabytes instead of gigabytes. So for 5.5gb you would type "-Xmx5632M" in launch options. Now sometimes like after a big steam update or big change or just on pretty rare occasion, the line of code will disappear from launch options and you will have to type it in again. Just put the line of code etc. in a txt file and save it, or if you have good memory remember it or come back to this post! Recommend #1 or #2 I remember it by heart but if you don't know if you can remember save it or if you think you can remember, you still might want to save it for reassurance!

NOW: if you have a good pc and seem to have loss of performance, type "-high" in your launch options to make it a high priority. I f you want to allocate more ram and make it a high performance, put your ram allocation a (space) and -high like this "-Xmx#G/M -high" and How I do it since I have 32gb of ram and a 3100 dollar pc, I put "-Xmx11G -high" and I put 11 because of my ocd and I put 11 because you want your ram allocation lower than half of your total ram so if you have 8gb put it at 4gb or less... Your hardware needs it more than software in many to most cases. I would normally put 10 but 11 seems more perfect because of ocd :3 SO Have fun! play fast with decent allocation! If you need any more help, friend me and I ay know!

i see an argument is more important than a solution ._.

In order to increase your ram, take a large glass of water and dump it inside your pc or laptop.
Enjoy...

yeah this works best

OP never responded... the only way is -xmx... The way I originally learned this line, is from the new minecraft launcher... Its RAM arguments are "-xmx1G" which can be changed manually. since java is behind the games engine like most games (a very small select few games do not recognize the "-xmx" line). So, doing "-xmx4G" will allocate 4gb. Doing "-high" will make your game a high priority in taskmanager automatically. doing "-xmx4G -high" will do both. I reccomend no more than 4gb allocated if you have 8gb or more. I reccomend 6gb allocated if your computer has 16gb or more. gmod will usually peak at its VERY HIGHEST at about 3-4gb. I recorded this with my own hardware monitoring software. that's very highest while running the game on max settings @1080p.

Allocating more system memory isn't going to improve performance. chances are if your potato cannot handle it .... adding more ram will not benefit you.
