How long does it take for loot from a dead body to despawnu

I died. How much time until the loot despawns?

I'm guessing 5 minutes. Most times, if I can't make it back in 5 minutes that backpack is gone. I did have one time where I made it back to my backpack, opened it and died by zombie... came back again... opened it, died again. I did this for a half hour, leading me to believe that if you open a backpack it resets the decay timer. I may be wrong. If you can't make it in that 5 minutes, you have to accept the fact that it's gone. Being prepared with extra gear helps alleviate the pain of losing what you had.

I've never been able to recover my corpse, even when going after it just meant getting some basic gear out of my house and heading out. It must be pretty fast. @_@

I would like a verified answer to this as it my experience it seems if you die with an inventory full of equipment it despawns quickly (2mins max) whereas if you die with the basic bandage, torch and rock it sometimes doesn't appear to despawn, ever.

feels kinda random or bugged to me. sometimes when you die the bag will despawn right away when no other player is around. and other times it stays there for 10mins+ .at least from my expierience. when i started playing i died 2 times in a row near my house to zombies. the first bag was gone right away while the second useless one stayed for a long time. a clarification would be nice though.

I think it stays longer if you are killed by a player rather than if you are killed by the environment or a zombie. Also opening a bag seems to reset the despawn timer, as I have seen bags in high traffic areas stay there for hours and hours with just a rock and a torch in it.

Yeah I noticed this today in my first three hours of playing. I didn't know how long the decay was so I ran around in circles looking in the area where a zombie attacked me, followed by a dog/wolf which finished me off.

I eventually gave up looking for my pack and continued on. I built up my stuff again and had a nice hatchet, bow, ammo, armour and food/supplies.... Then I got ambushed by 8 zombies and couldn't quite land shots with my bow... Then ran out of arrows and died.

I went back right away, got the zombies to chase me for a while away from my pack, finally got to my pack only to find one leather helmet inside.

Nothing else.

Back to the drawing board.

May be, someone knows how to change time until the loot despawns on server throughout server configs and so no. Is it possible at all at this moment or It doens`t implemented for server admins?
