Keyboard not reacting
Hey folks,

I am playing on a Laptop so the Keyboard is directly connected to the device. Before I start the game it works properly but when I want to change the key settings before launching oder trying to type something in the game itself the keyboard doesnt work at all!!!

It makes a beep sound like its not recognized. When i look at the output log it says something like:

[...]

- Completed reload, in 0.620 seconds
desktop: 1600x900 60Hz; virtual: 1600x900 at 0,0
<RI> Initializing input.

<RI> Failed to register devices:

Der Vorgang wurde erfolgreich beendet.

(Filename: Line: 966)

<RI> Input initialization failed.

This is a outcut from the bottom side. I think its the important part.

I tried to google and seems like there are a look of people having same problem with other games that run on Unity-engine (or something called like this). But I didnt find a way to fix it. Can someone help me please?

please Help!!!
Have you tried using an external keyboard to see if that' works properly?

Otherwise you could try updating your keyboard filter drivers from your manufacturers website, But if it's beeping at boot saying no keyboard detected, then i would suggest a replacement.

But to me, it looks like it's not initialising your keyboard in game. This only happens when you try to change key settings?

Its not beeping at start, its beeping when changing key settings.
When I am in Windows or steam itself it works perfectly!

Like you said its not initialising the keyboad ingame... sadly I dont have an external keyboard here to try :/ .

Read on google that some people with other games had this issue with unity-engine as I said... tried to fix some values in registry but that didnt do it^^

Unfortunately, I don't think you can fix it yourself, I have no idea how it works when it initialises your input devices. Have you verified files through steam? I mean if your system works fine in everything else but rust, then it's a game problem, not a hardware issue, All i can suggest for the time being is an external mouse and keyboard till it gets fixed :<

Found an external Keyboard to test it now... doesnt work :/

now i am pretty sure that its a problem of the game, more precisely unity-engine I think. Is there a support where i can post that to make developpers aware of the problem?

Well, you could search for the dev's email or something, but yeah, that's definately a game issue and nothing wrong with your computer. There is the facepunch forums, but the mods there are children.

If you like to know... I think i fixed it. Found that Comodo firewall works with unity-engine aswell. Uninstalled it and now it works!!!

Crappy game engine (sorry to say that but its true)

Hey fub4r, I am having this exact same issue...I was playing perfectly fine all weekend, then the game would keep freezing so I reinstalled, and now the keyboard won't work in game! I'm running on OSX, any ideas?

I found a solution to my problem. I am running Windows. But the problem was connected to my firewall. The firewall I was using was something like Comodo (or something like that) the problem was, this firewall was running a programm/engine called "unity". The same engine Rust is using aswell. So both programms blocked each other, thats why Rust kept on crashing all the time. I had to uninstall the firewall, reinstall Rust and reinstall the firewall afterwards. Then all was fine. Maybe have a look if you have some programm running/installed that is using this engine. Sadly just closing the firewall didnt really work for me. I really had to uninstall it. Hope this will help you

Just hit escape, go to options, and reconfigure the keyboard buttons. It worked for me.
