Logging Out

Yesterday I spent over 4 hours hunting, gathering, and crafting. I went into my shelter and logged out with a sleeping bag. When I starting playing again today, my character respawned in a different location and all of my things were gone. I then committed suicide to see if my camp was still there, and it was, along with most of my things... Does your character automatically die after being logged out for a period of time? I lost everything I was carrying with me! Very frustrating!

Just to clarify, my shelter was still standing with the metal door intact, so no one broke in and killed me!

I dont know too, i logged out for some days (2). And lost everything too. No one raided me, and i was in my shelter too.

Another question : Will i lose stuff if i logg out if im not in my shelter?

shelter can be broke with hatchet so metal door is useless effort

also on sleepers servers if you log out your character stays on server so if someone finds you he can kill you

also admins can do wipes on servers - they can wipe only inventory, only buildings or both

Well that is probably what happened then, but it seems a little unfair, no? What's the point of even playing?

Same happen to me. I had everything and then l logged out because l spend about 6hours playing 3hours gathering 3hours building l made a really big tower and logged out in it. After l came back on l was in a diff place with diff stuff and when l went were my house was (l sucided to check if my camp was there but no) and it was not there tho all the buildings that l used to follow to get to my house where still there anyone had a problem like this before? Because l know the server didn't get wiped/didn't join a diffrent server.So is it useless to build in Rust now? or even play it? Not cool not cool....

Seems to be the same issue. Best answer I can give is to place everything in crates before logging out my issue is it only spawns you in your sleeping bag once after that it throws you around randomly.

What about normal/official servers?
Do they have the sleepers option? Or cant u lose anything while logged out?
I just lost everything while i was logged out (wasnt in my shelter and thought you cant get raided when logged out on a "not-sleepers" server xD)

Judging by all the comments, this is a common issue. I see no point in playing if all my work is going to be erased. I really like this game and believe it has a lot of potential so I will come back when it is fixed!

Some servers may allow people to kill you while you are logged out. At least in the old days you could rob and kill people when they were logged out, depends on the server settings.

Find a group that might have some people online while you are off to protect your stuff. Raids happen all the time :)

Some cheating dickjam might have been involved as well.

You do not die and lose your inventory if you log out in your base. When you log back into a server there will be a message at the top explaining why you died. It may say that you were killed by a player, in which case you were raided and you need to clear your TC if your base is still standing. If you died to thirst, hunger, or cold, you did not log out immediately. You were still alive in the server for a while before actually closing the game. If you log out in the open world (on most servers and all vanilla servers), someone will kill you and take your stuff if they find you.

yes i died and had 24 Guns and So much loot and said i killed my Self
