Single-Player Mode?
Some might think it sounds like a stupid idea, but I think there should be a single-player mode. I know that it would be easier for newbies (like me) to get the hang of the game. Just an idea :)

Edit:
There could also be options for the SP game, such as a diffuculty choice. And, you could have more than one SP game saved.
EDIT 2:
rust is a dying game, if you want to play single player just join an empty server because nobody gives one mate
edit 3:
to this day, this thread is still getting posts. this was in 2013, im not sure what rust has done since but im sure it hasnt added SP mode. facepunch games seem to be community driven and it is what it is.

Buy your own server and kick everyone who joins! :)

You COULD do that, but making servers has always been a problem for me. And it would get annoying having to stop playing every time someone joins so you can kick them. A singleplayer feature would be much more convinent.

Felicia, you can't make a server yourself as you'll have to rent it off a game company. It's quite cheap. There's barely anyone joining completely empty servers and especially not if you give the server a childy name.

Go on a friendly no pvp. Not only can you enjoy the single player type gameplay they also tend to have others who are willing to give you a helping hand. It will be a shock to the system for you if you ever decide to get on to the PvP but at least you will be experienced :-)

No thanks, I don't encourage your promotions in my thread.

Yeah, I've been playing on a No-PvP and kinda liking it. But i still think it would be cool to add SP mode.

I think its stupid not to have singleplayer, it can be laggy and annoying to get your butt kicked every time you try to enjoy the game, and it can be difficult to find a server you like. I can't even learn the basics because im migrating servers constantly.

Exactly what I was thinking. If SP was added, I'm sure that there would be something done to fill in the roles of the other players in MP. Like, maybe AI?
If it's logical (For you kids, that means if it makes sense), it's possible.

I've had my eye on this game for a while, sitting on the fence a bit if I should get it or not... I'd be more willing to get this game now if there was a single-player mode in it. Here's what I wrote in another thread about if there was a single-player option:

I think it would be a good option to have. Players can then choose if they want to go single-player or multiplayer. Single-Player might be good for new Players to become more familiar with the game, or to just casually play in relative peace without worrying about hackers, cheaters and griefers, plus also not worrying about logging off and losing progress of items collected, structures-built and whatnot to hackers and griefers.

The game has amazing potential, don't get me wrong, but it would help it in every way to add a singleplayer mode. I'm trying to find a reason why it has not been added yet, understanding that its in alpha, and all I can come up with are two possibilities. One is the fact that they are trying to make a game like Day Z, (Didn't like it because it was multiplayer only) and that they want to keep a leash on the player, such as servers costing money, for whatever reason.

I try to build a house, and after hours of constructing, surviving, and making sure it's player proof, i come back to find the entire thing has disappeared. I can never feel safe playing the game knowing that everything I build and create can be simply lost like this.

they can focus on both i think.
i think that singelplayer is a most specialy like a that have similar feature as minecraft. and survival.
but i doubt they will make it as they say there will no singelplayer.
but they can allways change there minds if there enough players that wants it.
so who knows.

Creating a server to play alone is the most useless thing I have ever heard. Running a server and Rust on a single machine is going to take heaps of Processing power. Not to mention all the extra work to set that server up just so one user can play.

Servers are for MULTIPLE people playing under one location. While they CAN be used for a single player this is not why they were ever created and therefor is a horrible idea. I support your question Fluffy Putin, and I think it is a great idea. Although Rust is new and still has some kinks to work out I think it would be a wonderful idea to add a Single Player side, Something that could be launched in game and require no downloads.

New players would have a map to themselves that they could train on and get better at the game. Or just screw around because you don't feel like playing with other people. Not everyone has a 2-3 thousand dollar gaming machine where they can launch a server, and a game that takes a recommended 3Ghz Quad core. (No they don't say quad core but a 3Ghz Dual core will NOT play this game unless grass.on is false and shadows.on is false.) So people who are pushing these requirements have no extra room to run a server.

Great suggestion Fluffy and I hope to see this implemented soon.

This game is interesting because of multiplayer, social interaction and non-stop risk of being attacked is what makes 70 % of fun, at least for me.
You can't have LAN servers or anything just yet, nor passworded one, but I'm pretty sure they will add that.

I've spend the last hour trying to find one of these new open world survival games that DOESN'T feature PVP. I'm generally a hardcore kinda guy playing things like stalker, I just find games that allow grief and bullying to be pointless and unfun.
