Rust
How do you repair?
I found one thread where a dev came along and explained "go look at the community wikki it explains in detail there"..
Looks at the wikki, hardly any info about it, some conficting information, no idea what is current.

Anyone ever actually repaired something? Someone else said decay wasn't something you repair, you just need to log on to stop decay.. But the wiki says you need to use metal fragments on a metal door and some kind of tooltip appears.. Never seen it. Anyone?

Decay works like this.

It only applies to wood shelters and doors.

If you dont use the door/shelter with in 8 hours it dissappears.

There is no way to repair just go play with it.
(I think)

Oh man, you are mostly right, ( I think).. Although I don't see anywhere that it says if you use it it won't despawn.. Also how do you play with a pilar/barricade/ceiling? Do you have to routinely walk on your ceilings/walls etc? Erg.

All from the offical community wiki the devs say is legitly helpful:

"Metal doors will despawn after a certain amount of time.
Wood barricades will despawn after 5 days.
Wood ceilings will despawn after 5 days.
Wood pillars will despawn after 5 days
Changelog
* You now get a repair notice when repairing an object

Wood shelters will despawn after 12 hours. When this happens, any other objects placed inside that were touching the walls will also despawn, such as doors, sleeping bags, storage boxes, etc."

Thats dumb. Why bother making a house if they are going to despawn? Sounds lame

Well, if they didn't despawn I guess the fear is that the servers will end up for billions of houses everywhere.. But 12 hours, man some days I sleep for more than 12 hours. Also some people (not me) need to work for a living.. The theory is 12 hours is enough time to build a foundation, 4 pillars, 3 walls, a doorway, a ceiling and a metal door.. Or you know, get a metal door and steal someones house.

I mostly worked it out, put it on a hotkey, press the number when aiming at the thing, uses raw wood on wooden stuff, I think fragments on metal but yet to test that.. Still unsure of the whole despawning stuff.

Does not work for me at all tried all combination on the hotkey

Drag the wood/metal fragments to the hot bar, aim at thing to repair, press the number.

Nope, that doesn't work, not metal fragments on metal doors, nor wood or planks on wooden walls/wooden doors. (items place on belt (or hot bar) and number pressed).

I saw a vid of Markiplier, and I heard his mate say Hey you can repair doors, (cos someone was chopping from the other side - pretty funny) but damned if what any of you have instructed actually works.

What am I doing wrongly, or what other factors are there to consider (admin options)?

SO when you add wood or metal fragments to your belt, and press the number, what do you see? and what happens? What do you see that shows the door is being repaired?

A detailed description of this baffling aspect of RUST would be highly appreciated.

And regarding servers: can repairing doors, etc., be turned off?

And please smart-arses with nothing to say except "You're doing it wrong" are welcome to waste their time and amuse me :) (trolling actually does amuse me)

Put the material (wood, metal fragments) into a slot in your belt.

Walk to the wall you want to repair and face it and press the number (1,2,3,4,5, or 6) corresponding to the material.

You should see a pop up saying you repaired the wall and its hp.

And you can only repair it after it has started to decay or has been damaged.

What I typed at the time did actually work- Although now something can't be repaired if it has been recently damaged.

Also YOUR DOIN IT WRONG.

haha, (mwah) I KNOW I'M DOING IT WRONG lol

Thank you guys... it may be that my walls are sound, because I log in everyday (?) n no decay has set in.

I think it's time to experiment with some c4 and come back the next day - that should gimme some damage to repair.

tah guys... :)

decay does not start while you are using doors or campfires in your house.

Your walls will be fine if you have a ceiling, the decay starts from the top and works its way down, its why people put a pillar on top of their houses.
